For me, low vision is the most difficult part of having Albinism. Living on a farm has brought new challenges that I never would have imagined. I depend a lot on memorizing my environment and that's almost impossible to do because things change so drastically and I am dealing with animals. However, my vet tells me I pick up on things normal seeing people don't see. I put my hands on every animal and feel to see if anything changes, I also can tell if they are acting differently and even smell differently (infections/scours). I use my other senses to pick up what my eyes may miss.
We try to keep feed, meds and tools in the same locations so I know where to find them easily.
Since I have a sun sensitivity and burn so quickly, plus I have Lupus which limits my sun exposure as well, my farm chores happen 45 minutes before sunset. It just means a shift in time schedule so that I can get things done.
It also helps that I have an amazing husband that picks up the slack where I may fall short.

Today is International Albinism Awareness Day! This is one day a year we shed a light on people with albinism. We have lots of new friends on our page, so let me introduce myself. My name is Ceilia and I have albinism. What does that mean? I have a rare genetic condition in which my body does not produce melanin, what is needed for pigment it affects my hair, skin and eyes. Each person with Albinism is affected differently. Low vision is very common because our eyes do not develop properly. In my case I am legally blind, I see at 20 feet what a normal seeing person would see at 200 feet. In sunlight, without sunglasses, I am totally blind. I burn not tan, and yes this is my real hair, I don't dye it 😅.
I will be making post sharing facts, crushing myths and sharing stories.
