This International Workers' Day, we’re taking the day off to celebrate cooperative ownership and the collective action and sacrifice of workers that came before us.

International Workers' Day has its roots in the labor movement of the late 1800s, when workers organized for fair wages, safer conditions, and the 8-hour workday, demands that reshaped what work could look like.

In 2023, Covered Bridge Cookies was reimagined a worker cooperative, which means the people baking, mixing, and packing are also owners with a real say in how this business runs and grows. It’s a worker-focused model rooted in fairness, democratic control, and long-term sustainability for the business, local community, and the people behind it.

It's exciting to see the Windsor Railyard Project get started! Covered Bridge Cookies is proud to support this transformative development and be part of Windsor's growth.

Railyards Project : The skate park at the new Railyards Recreation area is starting to take shape! The new park, located behind the Station Restaurant, is a $900,000 + project that remediates a former brownfield and transforms the area into a public park.

A dog park, picnic area, and skate park will complement the Windsor Exchange building (blue building) that has been used in the past for a variety of public gatherings. In the photo below you can see some of the skate park features taking shape. Construction is expected to be complete by early November.

VTRANS park and ride grant
Byrne Foundation grant
Private donations from Windsor/Upper Valley businesses and individuals

- From Farmer’s Market to Worker-Owned Co-op 🍪
Covered Bridge Cookies has been a Windsor, VT favorite since Carl & Sue Goulet began baking in 1997. What started as a farmer’s market side hustle has grown into a beloved local brand.

In 2023, after 30 sweet years, the business became a worker-owned cooperative—now led by Carl’s son Christopher, along with longtime team members Shannon Smith & Colin Moon. Under this new model, every employee has a path to ownership, sharing in profits and making decisions together.

They bake ~4,000 boxes a month (that’s over 10,000 cookies a week!) using Vermont-sourced ingredients and small-batch techniques for that unmistakable homemade taste.
