We're myth-busting common claims about herbal supplements and how they "boost" your immune system. Swipe through for the tea 🍵

TL;DR: They aren't as well-regulated as many believe, and the claims on the package aren't confirmed by the FDA. They don't "boost" your immune system (this only occurs in response to microbes), but can help supplement nutrients missing from a balanced diet. The best thing you can do for your immune system is eating more whole foods.

Making choices to get enough sleep, manage your stress, move daily, and try to have a well-balanced diet can have positive downstream effects on your immunity! 💪

These foods aren't often thought of as immune boosters, but adding them into your menus will provide the extra support you're looking for:
🍓 Foods like broccoli, Brussels sprouts, dark leafy greens, strawberries, and pineapple often have more vitamin C than citrus!
🥕 Orange and yellow foods like sweet potatoes, pumpkin, carrots, peaches, and cantaloupe help fight infection.
🕺 Get funky with gut health supporting fermented foods: kefir, kimchi, kombucha, etc.
🧄 Boost probiotics with onions, garlic, and leeks.
🫚 Ginger and turmeric can help with inflammation.

Supplements are all over social media, but can they do all they promise?

Extracts from mushrooms and plants, often called adaptogens, have a long history of use to help manage stress, improve immune function, and boost energy, but you should proceed with caution! They aren't well-regulated, and there aren't a lot of studies to demonstrate effectiveness.

🗣️ Buyer beware! We do know that some adaptogens do interact with medications. Talk to your doctor before introducing adaptogens to your routine.

🤝 Support your immunity by exercising regularly, staying hydrated, eating balanced meals, and getting adequate sleep.

Just some facts about foods that can rewire your gut:
1️⃣ Eating more prebiotic-rich plants like garlic, onions, bananas, asparagus, sunchokes, oats, apples, dandelion greens, and barley can help the good bacteria in your gut!

2️⃣ Brussels sprouts, broccoli, and other cruciferous vegetables have been linked to improved digestive health.

3️⃣ Fermented foods like kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut, miso, kefir, and tempeh can help replenish your gut bacteria.

4️⃣ Artificial sweeteners and additives in some processed foods have both been linked to reductions in good gut bacteria.

5️⃣ Gluten and dairy aren’t a problem for your gut health unless you have an active intolerance or allergy!
