Well, this is not how we hoped day 8 would begin, but as farmers, all we know how to do is persevere, because God will always give us what we can handle. 💪😁

We are blessed the only damage was done to our canopy. All of our products and displays are safe! It was good timing that we recently upgraded to waterproof labels! 🙌

Very thankful for our amazing friends and vendor neighbors that stepped in without hesitation to help those of us here affected by the winds. Laughing and smiling through it all, because God is good… ALL THE TIME. ✨

No canopy, no problem! We are still here at the Clay Plant Market • Parke County Covered Bridge Festival today and plan to be back tomorrow with a new tent to finish out this incredible festival.

The support this week has us overwhelmed with gratitude. We’ve been spending the past few evenings making products to restock our shelves with the fan favorites for this weekend! 🫶✨🍁

Packing up for the biggest festival in Indiana feels surreal!

I mean it when I say both Coston and I have been giving it our all for the past few months preparing inventory, upgrading our brand, and adjusting our booth to hold the 60+ scents poured for all of you! We cannot wait to show you all that has been created!

Clay Plant Market • Parke County Covered Bridge Festival hasn’t even started, but we are already filled with gratitude. The words of encouragement, shared excitement, and the shockingly large amount of our supporters that plan to travel well out of their way to come… grateful!!

Two more late nights ahead, and then it ALL BEGINS! ✨🙌🍁🕯️

Morning porch dates with Hank and a coffee in hand is how the mornings on the farm usually start.

When my day begins, Hank’s main shift is ending. Before he settles in his den for his daily hibernation, we meet up on the porch so he can tell me about his night as I pull new burrs caught in his coat from chasing coyotes back into the woods. His level of tiredness lets me know how far he’d traveled. The mud and smell of the creek … at least he stopped for a drink or maybe trapped a raccoon.

Oh, the stories a good ol’ farm dog could tell …

If you knew me growing up, you’d remember how much I talked about my family farm.

Specifically, when I was asked about my future plans, “Move to the farm and make it self-sustaining” was truthfully my answer and the subject of any class project when I was given free rein of topics.

I learned what being privileged was at a young age because I was born into a family that had kept Walnut Knoll in the McKinney name since 1836. PT McKinney was the first generation, then his son, Charles, passed it to Glen. Great-grandfather, Lawrence McKinney, left it to Papaw Pearce. After he passed, my mother and Aunt, generation 6, became the first female owners of our beloved family farm. These two wonderful women have trusted me, gen 7, with the opportunity to live on and manage the farm. Since 2020, my husband and I have been actively creating the homestead we call home.

I am called to honor our ancestors that worked and protected the farm before us. We are privileged they are laid to rest in our family cemetery on the property. The place I will one day eternally lay alongside them.

God has blessed this land with rolling hills that once operated as a saw mill. Plentiful woods that supplied lumber for the old barns and 1892 farmhouse. Gorgeous pastures with prime forage for our livestock to rotationally graze, and the fresh water flows from peaceful Coal Creek. Blessed with land that deserves respect.

Diversifying our farm in a way where we can share our blessing through farm-to-venue experiences has been our dream since day one. Our farm tours fulfill my passion for honest agricultural education, and ag tourism. Being able to open minds to the laborious work and love behind family farms is the best reward.

Each time we open our pastures for special private events, it feels organic. This land is supposed to be a spot where families gather to celebrate heritage and traditions.

Working on our family farm to follow through with the authentic ideas and goals that our entire McKinney family have shared for lifetimes... makes me proud to play a part in carrying on the Walnut Knoll family legacy.

Our story here is a long one, but somehow it is just getting started! 🌾✨
