🌻 Farm Fact Friday 🌻
Happy Friday, friends!
What a lovely change of pace to wake up to a little rain and slightly cooler temperatures this morning!
As we deliver the last of our White Lite sunflowers, I thought I’d share a fun sunflower fact.
Most flower farmers grow what’s known as Pro-Cut sunflowers. Unlike branching sunflowers that produce multiple blooms on one plant, Pro-Cuts are a “one-and-done” variety, producing a single flower per stem. While that may sound like a disadvantage, there are a couple of big reasons we love them:
🌻 They don’t drop pollen. That means no yellow pollen stains on your tablecloths, countertops, or clothing while you’re enjoying them.
🌻 They have excellent vase life. Pro-Cut sunflowers tend to last longer after harvest and hold up well in the cooler before being arranged.
Depending on the variety and weather conditions, these sunflowers typically take about 50–60 days from seed to bloom. As this season has reminded, nature marches to its own drum!
The seeds I started last week are projected to be ready around August, and they’ll be a brand-new variety that I can’t wait to share with you.
Be sure to stop by Meadow Lou Farm and The Ridgeway Country Market this weekend. Both are stocked with some of the freshest local goodies around, and they’re definitely worth a visit! 🤤🌻💛
