To my valued CSA members and supporters of Heritage Gardens -- The Food Bank Farm.

After 10 years of working tirelessly to help improve the lives of the most unfortunate in our community, I made the bittersweet decision to sell the garden and CSA business to Brandon Pervis of NSL Center Primary Care LLC in February 2021, who promised to continue with our tradition of providing high quality produce to the area soup kitchens and food banks, as well as operate the CSA.

I am no longer the owner of Heritage Gardens nor do I have any current association with Heritage Gardens, its CSA, Brandon Pervis, or NSL Center Primary Care LLC.

If you have any questions or concerns about the current affairs of Heritage Gardens or its CSA program, please contact the current owner Brandon Pervis at NSL Center Primary Care LLC.

Please note that this page is a now a personal page and is NOT associated with the current ownership. I will not respond to messages posted here regarding any aspect or issue with the new owners.

It's getting to be that time of year where I warm fuzzy soup for dinner sounds awesome! Since I've been getting leaks and potatoes in my Heritage Gardens CSA - it's time for some comfort soup!

Another Zucchini Soup recipe that we're told is a must-make recipe! Creamy and delicious without the cream!

2 tbsp butter; 2 tbsp olive; 1 small onion chopped; 1 clove garlic minced; 1 1/2 pounds zucchini sliced in quarters; 1/2 cup water; 1 cup vegetable stock; salt & pepper to taste.

Melt butter & add olive oil in large sauce pan. Add onion, garlic, salt & pepper. Saute until translucent. Add zucchini and cook at moderate heat for about 10 minutes. Add water and stock and let simmer for 10 minutes. Transfer soup to blender and puree. Return to saucepan and heat.

Farmer John gave me some artichokes from his amazing garden! Having never made artichokes before - I went searching for an easy recipe and I think I've found one!

No joke — this truly is the most amazing roasted artichokes recipe. They’re easy to make, full of big and fresh flavors, and always a crowd fave! Since moving to Barcelona, our veggie bowl has mysteriously been stocked with fresh artichokes pretty much 24/7. I’ll give you one guess who’s res...

Our Story

Heritage Gardens is a small market garden (1/2 acre) located on a 60 acre private property and horse farm atop scenic Platt Hill in Wi******er, Connecticut. 2019 will be our ninth season. We continue to expand in order to meet the need of local hunger-relief organizations as well as the demand of our retail partners and CSA supporters.

Our principal mission is to provide high-quality organically grown produce to area food banks and soup kitchens. We donate a significant portion of our total harvest each season to several hunger-relief organizations in the Torrington-Winsted area and beyond. Over the last eight seasons we have grown and donated over 36,000 pounds of fresh, nutritious vegetables to help those in need.

Though small, we grow an amazing bounty of the highest-quality produce. We have a crop portfolio of over 40 types of vegetables, herbs, and flowers exceeding 100 different varieties (many of them heirloom). To maximize our potential, we use an intensive raised-bed garden system. Most of the garden work is done by hand which allows us the opportunity to take better advantage of crop rotations and companion plantings that have the garden bursting at the seams by mid-summer.

We believe that organic farming is the bedrock of sustainable agriculture. Although we are not currently USDA Certified Organic for marketing purposes, we do grow according to organic principles and follow the National Organic Program standards and guidelines. We do not use synthetic fertilizers or pesticides!
