Dozens of business owners, residents, city leaders, and staff packed into the lobby of the Pyrle downtown last week. They were brought together—and divided—by their visions for Greensboro’s urban center.

People across the city have been hotly debating the state of downtown for months, since a spate of restaurant closures near the beginning of the year.

After a spate of restaurant closings in Greensboro, community leaders and business owners are assessing what is working and what needs to change.

The Winston-Salem culinary community is mourning the loss of Chef Niki Farrington, a beloved figure whose influence reached far beyond any single kitchen. Chef Farrington was widely respected throughout the region’s restaurant community and was known for her deep commitment to the people and profession she loved.

I still remember meeting Niki when I first launched Eat Drink Triad. Like many others in the culinary community, she was skeptical of what we were doing—and rightfully so. Everything was new. We launched during COVID, a time of tremendous uncertainty for restaurants and hospitality professionals.

Over time, that skepticism gave way to friendship. Like so many people throughout our region, I eventually earned her trust. Looking back, I realize she wasn’t being difficult. She was being protective.

Protective of a culinary community she loved with all her heart.

Anyone who has spent time around chefs, restaurant owners, and hospitality professionals in our region understands this. The culinary community is tight as thieves. They are fiercely loyal, protective by nature, and willing to sacrifice for one another when times get tough. Niki embodied that spirit.

That’s why her loss is being felt so deeply today.

She wasn’t simply a chef. She was a guardian of a community, a mentor to many, and a friend to countless people who were fortunate enough to cross her path.

My thoughts are with her family, friends, and the entire culinary community as they navigate this tremendous loss. Niki Farrington’s impact on Winston-Salem will not be forgotten.

🚨 NEW IN GREENSBORO: CLUCKSY CHICKEN HAS ARRIVED

We recently stopped by the new Clucksy Chicken location inside Four Seasons Town Centre to see what all the buzz is about. Crispy tenders, loaded fries, wings, and chicken sandwiches built for people who actually love chicken—not just need a quick meal between stores.

As Greensboro continues to attract new dining concepts, it’s always exciting to see veteran operators investing in our community and giving local foodies something new to explore.

Take a look at some of the menu highlights from our visit and let us know:

What’s your go-to chicken order?

Some of our favorite Eat Drink Triad experiences happen around a shared table.

Earlier this year, a group of members gathered for a super fun private dinner at Ma’Luz, enjoying great food, meaningful conversations, and the opportunity to connect with fellow local food lovers.

These are the moments that remind us food is about more than what’s on the plate—it’s about community.

If you enjoy experiences like this, our next exclusive event is coming soon.

Another fun morning producing Eat Drink Triad segments with our local media partners WXII 12 NEWS and WTOB 980AM & 96.7 FM Radio.

This month’s segment featured our friends at Southern Harvest, and they didn’t come empty-handed. We had the opportunity to sample several dishes on set while previewing an exciting event we’re helping bring to the community.

We’re partnering with Southern Harvest for an upcoming Tanglewood Wine Dinner, an evening that will combine great food, wine, and conversation in one of the Triad’s most beautiful settings. Based on what we tasted today, you’re going to want a seat at the table.

Registration opens soon, and we’ll be sharing details in the coming days.

We’re also excited to be back on WTOB, sharing our favorite local restaurant recommendations and helping connect the community with some of the incredible food, beverage, and hospitality experiences happening throughout the Triad.

A big thank you to WXII, WTOB, Southern Harvest, and all of the local businesses that continue to make this community such a special place to eat, drink, and explore.

Every week, we set out with a simple mission: support local businesses, meet great people, and discover the restaurants, coffee shops, breweries, bakeries, and hidden gems that make our communities special.

The best experiences aren’t found in chain restaurants—they’re found in locally owned businesses built by people who have poured their hearts into serving our community.

☕ Camino Bakery
A fresh drip coffee from one of the city’s most iconic bakeries, known for artisan breads, pastries, and a commitment to quality.

🥪 Krankies
A sausage and egg biscuit from a local institution that helped define Winston-Salem’s coffee culture.

🌯 Muddy Creek Cafe at Old Salem
A chicken salad croissant enjoyed alongside one of the most relaxing views in the city.

🌭 District 924
Wings and hot dogs at a growing destination bringing together food, drinks, and community.

🍺 Lesser Known Beer Company
Craft beer from one of the area’s finest breweries, helping expand the local beer scene.

🍕 Uptown Pizza WS
Fresh pizza served from a local food truck bringing handcrafted pies directly to the community.

🔥 Little Richard's Barbeque
A classic BBQ sandwich from a Triad favorite that has been serving generations of local families.

🥩 East of Texas
A brisket sandwich showcasing the bold flavors and craftsmanship of Texas-style barbecue.

If you love discovering local restaurants, supporting locally owned businesses, attending exclusive events, and connecting with fellow food lovers throughout the Triad, we’d love for you to join us.

Become part of the Eat Drink Triad community and help us continue celebrating the people and places that make this region special.

Looking for a reason to visit Lexington?

During my conversation with former Mayor Newell Clark, I asked him to share a local recommendation, and he pointed to one of the newest additions to the community: Floating Goat Brewing.

The brewery recently opened and offers craft beer alongside a menu featuring appetizers, pizzas, and sandwiches. It's another example of the continued investment and growth happening throughout Lexington's food and beverage scene.

If you've already visited, let us know what you ordered.

Today we’re celebrating the retirement of Margaret Elliott and recognizing a legacy of service that has positively impacted countless lives throughout our community.

Over the past two years, Eat Drink Triad has been honored to support the annual Hope du Jour campaign alongside Crisis Control Ministry, Inc.. Through that partnership, we’ve had the opportunity to witness firsthand the compassion, leadership, and dedication that Margaret brought to the organization and the people it serves.

Recently, we were proud to produce a long-form video highlighting Margaret’s remarkable career and the lasting impact she has made through decades of service. Her work has helped provide hope, stability, and support to thousands of individuals and families across our region.

While this chapter is coming to a close, her legacy will continue to inspire those who carry the mission forward.

We’re grateful for the relationship we’ve built with Crisis Control Ministry and look forward to partnering on additional social causes initiatives throughout the year.

Please join us in congratulating Margaret on a well-earned retirement and thanking her for the tremendous difference she has made in our community.
