I was just talking with a boarder the other day about this condition and how breed specific it is:

As far as I know HERO board of directors has not reconsidered the fate of Serena and Chief from the loving and caring person they have known and thrived under. They are scheduled to be ripped from that home today. There are so many negative thoughts I am having. UnChristian type thoughts, like wishing the same pain, suffering and confusion befall the humans in their own PERSONAL lives, that are making these decisions. Friends, please pray for Serena and Chief, for they will surely need those prayers, and pray for me that these revenge filled thoughts will leave and be replaced with thoughts more akin to what Jesus would have me think of. I am really, really struggling.

Wellness Day July 2. Folks are welcome to trailer in!
Next wellness day is July 2!
Does anyone have a refrigerator with working freezer they may want to donate to our stable? The fridge we have does not have a working freezer. We NEED the freezer so we can have our ice boots frozen to care for injuries. Please send a message if you would like a new home for an old fridge!
Magic and Sam in a beautiful sunset 🌅
Our campers are enjoying summer camp here at NWS. We are very mindful of high humidity and high temperatures. Yes, we can and do cool the horses off with water but more importantly we make sure to scrape the excess water off so that it is not trapped in the coat making it impossible for the animal to cool off. Since the humidity is so very high we opt to use fans as a additional method to keep our friends cool. PIcs to come!

Do y’all remember Chief and Serena? These two were the horses no one thought could be rehabilitated. Serena was skin and bones and circled to the point of being danger and Chief had significant rotation due to untreated Cushings. They beat ALL the odds and fully recovered. Yes, they have ongoing conditions and are not perfect, but so do we all. Chief will occasionally abscess but other than that is perfect. Serena will revert to not eating and drops weight and circles when her world is disrupted, as it was recently when a pasture mate died. We learned a lot about Serena when she came in and this is her behavior when something devastating happens. She now has accepted a new pasture mate, a little cow, and has stopped her circles and is gaining weight again. Because she will always be a crooked little pony she circles when upset. This is something we had to learn about her when she came. She is slow to trust but loves with all her heart when she does. And Chief, he was so significantly rotated that we thought he would not respond to treatment, but slowly he did and now only has an occasional abscess. Both horses are at a sanctuary farm and are in need of alfalfa pellets, Serena’s favorite, Pracend and fly spray. HERO is paying for their care but if we could help out maybe they won’t be considered a financial burden. I would hate to see something happen to them after all they have been through. Yes, they are pasture puffs but they are loving life and the people around them for any amount of time love them. Of course if you have room on your farm for adoption that is an option! If you have donations please drop off at NWS as I plan to visit next week and drop off donated items for them!

Really nice clinic today with Clinician, Laura Hebard.
I know this is a lot to ask of folks, but my request was taken down off of the HERO page looking for volunteers to help with to rescue horses that are at a barn down the road from Northwoods Stables. With that post I was hoping to generate some interest because there are only committed volunteers coming to help with these two horses on Saturday mornings, Monday and Friday evenings. So as a rescue organization that has a ton of volunteers it would be really nice if we could get more help with the horses. Please let me know if you or anyone else that you know would like to help out. They get fed morning and evenings, so twice a day every day. That requires the horses to be led from the pasture to the barn and then back out. It would be great if we had volunteers that would do some grooming as well. Every little bit helps. Many hands make light work.
In search of barn needing a cat. Local organization will introduce cat to barn appropriately and provide for needs. Anyone?
Next Wellness Day is April 23!

Come and join us for a day of learning at Northwoods Stables! Laura Hebard of Bushel Barns Boarding & Horsemanship will spend time exploring how our work on the ground and in the saddle can help our horses achieve a greater sense of balance, relaxation, and rhythm. Though there will be opportunities on the ground and in the saddle, you do not have to ride if you do not feel comfortable. During our time together, we can also address concerns such as riding safely in a group, standing still for mounting, reactivity to aids, etc.
