Hurricanes are hard for us farmers. Not only do we suffer financially from lost crops, but it’s also mentally defeating to see your hard work done in the hottest, most humid time of the year wash away. We replant and rebuild hoping that another storm doesn’t take us out again. The stress can be overwhelming when we rely on these crops to survive and provide for ourselves. Small diversified farms don’t have access to crop insurance and subsidies like large scale monoculture farms, making us more vulnerable to these weather events.

Despite the challenges, we will continue to do this hard work to continue to provide our community with good food. The best way to support farmers during this time is to buy our produce when we have it available or sign up for a CSA to get us through this difficult period. I’ll be back at markets in a couple weeks and the CSA will start back up soon. Please support your local farmers! Thanks to for bringing light to this!

Interplanting is a practice we use a lot on the farm. We take advantage of the wasted space around our larger, long-growing crops by growing small, quick-growing crops in between. The idea is to have the quick crops mature by the time the longer crops need more room. Timing can take a couple tries to figure out but it’s definitely worth it if you’re growing on a small space. Here’s some combos that have worked well this season:
Tomatoes+basil
Cukes+bok choy
Eggplant+scallions
Kale+lettuce
Beans+radish
Chard+lettuce

Lots of new growth is happening at the farms! 2 plots planted 4 to go! We do succession planting on the farm where we space our crop plantings out and are planting new items each week so that we can have a constant supply of produce all season long. A lot of forethought goes into a successful growing season and it’s always fun to watch everything play out.

We still have a handful of CSA spots open as well! Sign up today at the link in our bio!

Registration for next season’s CSA is now open! Things are starting to pick up at the farm and in just a couple weeks we’ll start to put plants in the ground! Sign up today to reap the rewards of fresh produce grown right in Winter Park.

For those who don’t know - CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. It’s a unique agricultural model where you get to directly support our local farm by purchasing a share of the farm’s harvest in advance. This financial support helps us cover the costs of planting, growing, and harvesting crops. In return for your investment you receive a regular share of the farm’s produce throughout the growing season.

Our CSA promotes a closer connection to you and the food you eat. You get to enjoy seasonal produce at its peak freshness, often harvested the same day or the day before. Additionally, you get to support sustainable farming practices, reduce your food miles, and support your local economy.

If you’re interested in supporting our farm and getting weekly access to the best produce that money can buy then sign up today at the link in our bio:

Caterpillar tunnel #2 from is up! Can’t wait to fill this with cherry tomato plants soon. This tunnel will hopefully allow me to grow tomatoes all through the winter, from September until June, from the same plants. This is my first time growing tomatoes in a tunnel so I’m excited to see how it goes! Huge shoutout to for helping me throw the plastic on and putting the finishing touches on it!

I’m super stoked to announce a project that I’ve been working on recently with .a.em - Central Florida Farmers Alliance . We made this group to create a space for local farmers and aspiring farmers to network, share knowledge, and find ways to empower each other. If this sounds interesting to you, then you should sign up for our Farmer Mixer at on July 20th from 6-8pm. To sign up go the account and click the link in the bio!

Last week was my last harvest on the farm until October and it’s starting to set in. I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me this season! Whether you’re buying veggies from me, letting me use your land to farm, or just telling others about the farm, you’re really helping make this small, local, organic, urban farm a reality. All of this wouldn’t be possible without your support and I’m incredibly grateful to have a community that allows me to do this. I’m going to miss the weekly grind of growing veggies for y’all but it’ll be nice to slow down a bit and focus on building soil during the off-season. This week I started to plant cover crops (sorghum Sudan grass) which will grow all summer and help to keep the soil alive and healthy. Cover crops help with soil erosion, add organic matter to the soil, and this type also helps with controlling root knot nematodes which are a real pain to deal with. This is my first season growing a lot of cover crops so I’m excited to see how the soil responds. I usually just put a tarp down over the summer which works well but I think having plants photosynthesizing more often throughout the year will be better for the soil.
