Now that lambing season is winding down, we’ve spent some time reflecting on our lambing workshop back in early-February. We had a record turnout which once again included attendees from out of state (Go Essex Tech!!). As usual, attendees ranged from young people with land but no sheep, to those who are just starting their sheep journey, to more experienced shepherds looking to step up their management. We packed the weekend with info about ewe health and management, birthing tips and malpresentations, aftercare of lambs and ewes, and a hands-on session on doing your own f***l egg counts. We even had 2 ewes deliver their lambs during the Saturday session….right on cue!! I don’t believe anyone left with a question unanswered. Our format changed this year, where we now present two days of material as two, independent, 1-day sessions held the same weekend. It worked great. We recognize that everyone is busy so the new format allows for attending just Saturday or Sunday or both. Also, we hope the new format allows for those who attended just one day could attend the alternate day in the future. Plus, several past attendees have said they would like a refresher on some of the topics and this should help accommodate their needs as well. We plan to offer workshops on other topics in the future but for now, if you missed it, mark your calendars for February 2027.
