Kennett Farm & Garden Harvey's Homestead was established in 2021. Today's homestead consists of 10 chickens and 12 baby chicks.

Everything started with the love of animals when the 3 years old boy Harvey visited a local farm and asked to bring some baby chicks home.

We welcomed these sweet little ones on March 8 — Olive Eggers & Midnight Majesty Marans 🐥✨

Harvey and Emily are absolutely loving their new little friends and spending every chance they get with them 🥹💕

Watching them all together, exploring and growing, has been the sweetest thing. There’s nothing better than backyard moments like these 💛

So excited for all the memories ahead with our new feathered babies 🐔🌿

Did You Know? 🥚🐔

A single hen can lay 250–300 eggs per year under ideal conditions! However, several factors influence egg production:

🔹 Molting Season: Hens take a break from laying while they shed and regrow feathers, usually in the fall. This helps them conserve energy and prepare for colder months.

🔹 Light Exposure: Hens need around 14–16 hours of light daily to maintain peak egg production. Shorter daylight hours in winter can slow down laying unless supplemental light is provided.

🔹 Temperature Matters: Extreme cold can reduce egg production, while excessive heat can stress hens, leading to fewer eggs. Keeping hens comfortable with proper ventilation and hydration helps maintain steady laying.
