Thanks for sharing your piggies with our ukulele group! So fun watching them munch on your garden melons. I wonder what they thought of all the music? 😂

We had a great opportunity to take Miss Piggy and Princess out to a good friends farm. It was so fun to get to share our sweet girls with so many new ppl. Kunekune pigs are pasture pigs so they grow slower, have a different style nose so they don’t root and dig as much as a regular pigs. I love their temperament a bit more gentle. It was wonderful! We are new to farming, it is so wonderful getting to know local farmers. They are so warm and welcoming. Plus they have such great advice 😀 if any of you want to meet our sweet girls text me and we can pick a good time

After a short-notice, whirlwind trip to Washington, D.C., my body can’t decide whether it wants to run a marathon or take a nap today!

But I’m so thankful Benj & I got to bring four of our kids with to Washington, D.C. and share our perspective as farmers on Proposition 12 and the Farm Bill.

Thank you American Meat Producers Association for flying us out and creating this opportunity to share why having specialty markets matters to farms like ours. I’m grateful for the opportunity to have a seat at the table and use our little farm’s story to add to the conversation about the future of farming and food here in the USA.

I used to be afraid to call myself a farmer.

My grandparents had a dairy farm, and I have family who farms. But farming wasn’t the world I was born into.

We had to save for years. Buy our own property. Add land. Learn to use equipment that was new to us but ancient to everyone else. And slowly, we built this farm from the ground up into the kind of farm we love.

Some of my mentors in regenerative agriculture and soil health have told me that starting with nothing—without knowing “the done thing”—might be one of our greatest assets.

We’ve leaned into that.

I had some serious imposter syndrome when we started.

But to all of you raising good things in smaller quantities for your community: YOU ARE A FARMER TOO.

I am a farmer to the core.

I love growing good things and caring for animals and land.
I love feeding people beyond my own family.

And I’m proud to say it: I’m a farmer

There was a time I was afraid to let people come visit our farm. I thought everything needed to be a little more perfect before I could invite people in.

The farm is too weedy, my house has clutter, and I certainly don't have it all figured out. But a good friend said "Leah, let people into your life, and watch what follows"

And my life exploded with joy and LIFE.

Kids running through the pasture seeing goats for the first time. Friends around the table. People meeting the cows. Conversations in the barn and stories swapped. I just LOVE this!!!

I’ve learned that farming isn’t just about raising food. It’s about the PEOPLE we invite in.

This farm is meant to be lived in, shared, and experienced. So come on in. It probably won’t be perfect. But it will be ALIVE.
