Hope everyone is having a good new year! I haven't posted in a while, because winter is not such a crazy time of year for us on the farm. The farm jobs and wood splitting has settled down. We took pigs in to butcher in November. Been enjoying our pork. And hopefully the other 13 or so family's are too.. We won't be getting any new pigs until spring. The 6 spring calves are separated in the "nursery". They are in full force eating hay. No more milk from mommas and are getting big. The bull we rented got taken back to Merrill in December, so we will see if he did his job in spring when our mommas start having calves. We ended up with 7 this year! Which is great! The 7th one is not being weaned, because she is too little...named her Sweetie. She is still with her mom. My chickens are not laying any eggs, I haven't been too concerned because I figured they'd like the break and are getting old. See...kinda boring, right?
The one thing I wanted to touch base on is the weather coming up, we have some negative temperatures coming soon and would like a little prayer for our animals and their water lines to not freeze up!
Have a great day! Enjoy the beauty of the snow! And 😃 smile!

All about farm paper work today. Just got my butcher dates in the books for 2025!!! It's crazy to make butcher dates for animals not even born yet! I guess when you have the best butcher around doing your meat that is the way it is! And no, I won't take the meat any where else! Lol.

Thought I'd also post a couple videos...the pigs getting let out to feed. And the chickens getting let out to free range. Enjoy!

The next step in the pig situation..It's almost time for the pigs to go to their final destination. This is why we raise them....so yes, it's hard... but they have a good life here. Thought I'd share the feeding process..we finally have a good set up for feeding. Worked pretty slick this summer..we have been getting the feed in a feed wagon and augering into their feeder. Much easier. I've included pictures of that...also, we set up the chute that leads into the trailer, so they get used to going in there, because you can see the size of them, we're not going to be able to throw them in when it's time to take them to butcher. (They do go to butcher live. Just in case you were thinking we did it here.) We are learning and I think we have our pig situation down pretty good.

Hi Y'all! Hope you're having a great summer! It seems to be going so fast. Our pigs are really growing and having a blast every day in their mud. They have growing so much we doubled their pen size tonight. Mason, Tim, and I worked on getting up some new gates, getting their big feeder set up and just need to finish their automatic waterer that Tim built. No more filling pans 2x a day! Yippy! We also found a "surprise" in the pasture. Calf #6 (Gonna name her Summer)! I kinda suspected we might have another since we have one girl that calves late, but figured that window was over..got her tagged tonight too! Had a visitor from a stray cat...who didn't want any love from me.. also included some weekend pictures of the guys having. So YES, you can say we've been busy! My oldest son, Mason has stepped up and helped a LOT! His help is very much appreciated! Have any questions...just ask! Thanks for looking and enjoy your summer! ❤️

Well, yesterday was the day we went and picked up our pigs. They did a great job with the move, slept in the trailer on the way home and loved moving into their new pen. They zoomed around and played... you can tell when an animal is happy. They are right next to the calf nursery, so both checked each other out..cute to watch. Tim started building a new improved bigger pig house, because our old one isn't big enough with the amount of pigs we have increased to. The new pig house is about 12x12 and looks like a mansion for them, but soon enough they will fill it up. We finally finished and moved it to the pen yesterday, with the help of Lucas and Mason. Mason told me he was proud of me because I'm the one that drove skid steer to move it...it's nice hearing that! In all honesty...yesterday was about 90 degrees. It was probably one of the longest days we have had and felt yet...but, as a family, we got it done! Enjoy the pictures and thanks for reading. Have a great day!

This is probably going to be an odd post, but I'm going to go for it anyhow...my favorite time of the year is getting close. Calving season. I love watching my girls grow and become mommas. I'm guessing this girl will be one of our first to have her baby. Do you know some of the things I watch for when they are getting close? (I'm no professional, just little things I've tried to learn over the short time I've been on the farm. ) Mostly 3 things... Besides the size of her belly, her "butt" area is getting "saggy". (In my g-rated terms. Lol) You can see the pink area aside her tail getting saggy, or bigger..And the last thing, her udder growing...I actually have no idea how much longer she has, but I know the time is coming. I check the paddocks every day after work for calves.. and when it happens, I'll make sure to post pictures. Happy calving season! :)
