Well that bale doesn’t look very pleased.

Sometimes of the plastic is compromised, it’s harvested too wet (like in this case), or it’s been stored too long, baleage will spoil. When that happens we don’t want to feed it to our animals (even though they probably would eat most of it), so it goes in the manure spreader and back to the field. While it’s wasted money, time etc., we can at least add some organic matter back to the soil!

We still aren’t done calving yet! One of our Charolais cows had her calf a couple days ago. She was bred to a Black Angus bull, so hence the calf’s color. It’s always fun guessing what babies will be with this combination. Sometimes they are what we call “smoke” which is a gray color, and sometimes they are black!
