Tissue collection provides a great scouting opportunity. The leaf health narrative is starting to change among hybrids. This hybrid has not had a fungicide or insecticide application, and has relatively clean leaves. Some other hybrids in the same field are genetically more susceptible to disease and are showing their weakness.
The second picture shows almost no insect feeding on the silks. The third picture shows most stalks in the row trying to pollinate two ears per plant. While the plants get an “A” for effort, very few second ears have historically made it to harvest.

The sun is out and it’s a nice day to scout fields for damage following last night’s storm. It’s also time for the next round of tissue samples. This corn continues to remain healthy and is experiencing low leaf disease stress. Tissue sample results help to analyze product performance trials and quantify needs for additional fertilizer application.
