My last post was about the loss of Natasha's lambs. Since that time, we gained two sheep - we purchased Cocoa and Sierra from Heritage Hollow Farm. They're a joy, especially Cocoa - Lisa has fallen in love with her.
Sadly, we've suffered another loss this evening. We don't know why, but Yelena - mom to Pepper Jack and Babybel - was found in the pasture today, already gone. We're blessed in that Pepper Jack and Babybel are already weaned, but Yelena had done a pretty good job as a mom and we were looking forward to breeding her again. Even more than that, Yelena was my (Jeff's) favorite ewe - she just had an adorable face and a curious disposition.
I'm proud of Lisa, who had to bury Yelena on her own. I'm away at Scout camp right now; it seems like these horrible things only happen when I'm away. But Lisa is the whole package - not only is she able to stand toe-to-toe with the academics at her university, but she's able to carry out the necessities of farm life even when tragedy strikes. She's strong and beautiful, and more than I deserve.
