Metta Farm is a small-scale farm located in Woodinville, Washington. Metta is a Pali (ancient Indian) word that means loving-kindness, which is the farm’s core value and the way every living being is treated on the farm. The Farm’s mission is to grow Asian variety vegetables through regenerative and organic farming practices to provide high quality and nutrient dense produce to the Asian community. The farm currently sells all its produce through its online store.

The 3rd (swarm) hive really threw me off. I had to get a new set of bee hive and a wider stand. After a week of backbreaking activities I finally put everything together and moved all of them onto the new stand. I also got a roof for them for the heat and rain. Hopefully by spoiling them silly they never wanted to leave again. 🤞🏻

第三個蜂巢（分蜂群）來的太突然真的是讓我措手不及。我快速的買一套新的蜂箱和一個更寬的蜂架。雖然背快斷了可是終於把所有東西都組裝好，然後把它們都搬到了新的蜂架上。我還搭了個棚來防暑防雨。希望它們舒服到以後再也不想離開。 🤞🏻

One of my hives swarmed today 😵‍💫. Thanks to Nan, Apiary Manager from , who rushed over to help me catch the swarm, we were able to catch them before they took off. We are very lucky to have spotted and caught them in time since they settled on the tree only after 10 minutes of frantic flying; There’s no way I would be able to spot them if they have already settled on the tree by the time I walk by. The bees usually will only stay in their temporary spot for a few hours and will fly away for good once the scout finds them a permanent home. Seriously, there is never a dull moment on the farm. 😅

今天我的一個蜂巢分蜂了😵‍💫。多虧了21acres 的養蜂場經理Nan，她很快的趕過來幫我抓住蜂群，我們才在它們飛走之前抓住了它們。我們真是非常幸運，因為它們在瘋狂飛了10分鐘後就全部聚集在樹上；如果我路過的時候它們已經在樹上了，我肯定就不會看到它們了。蜂群通常只會在臨時落腳點停留幾個小時，一旦偵察蜂找到適合它們的家，它們就會全部飛走。說真的，農場裡真的永遠都充滿驚喜（或驚嚇）。 😅

My eggplants are flowering 🎉. Actually I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not since I just transplanted them a week ago. But look how pretty the flower is. Purple flower producing purple fruit, how fascinating.

我的茄子開花啦🎉。其實我也不知道這是不是好事，因為我才移植了一個星期。不過它的花還蠻漂亮的。紫色的花結出紫色的果，真神奇。

A few upgrades I did this year to my nursery tent is to add more LED light strips (now I use 4 Barrina light strips per shelf), and using a fan to blow a soft breeze at the seedlings. With the two upgrades I am able to reduce the mold/algae problem and help thickening the stems of the seedlings to prevent leggy growth. As a result, the sturdier and stronger seedlings transplanted much easier with less transplant shock.

今年我對育苗篷做了一些升級，包括增加LED燈帶（現在每層架子上用了4條Barrina燈帶），以及用風扇給幼苗吹微風。這兩項升級有效減少了黴菌/藻類的滋生，並幫助幼苗莖稈增粗，防止徒長。因此，較健壯的幼苗更容易移植，移植後的損傷也較小。

Remember the sword leaf lettuce (A Choy) I posted/planted in mid-April? Now they look like this! 🤩They got monstrous in just one month. The slugs also completely ignored them but decimated the purple variety. Why?!!! I really don’t get the slugs here…

還記得我四月中旬種的A 菜嗎？一個月它們已經長這麼大了！ 🤩 蛞蝓對綠色品種的完全沒有興趣，卻把紫色品種的吃得亂七八糟。為什麼？！我真的搞不懂這裡蛞蝓的口味⋯⋯

The bees are doing really well. 🎉 It has been 2 weeks since I got my 5 frame nucs and they are already running out of space so I added another box on top. They have been busy growing their hives with the recent warm dry weather and all the flowers we have on the farm. 🐝🌼

蜜蜂們適應的很好！ 🎉 我收到五框蜂箱才兩週它們的空間已經不夠用了，所以我又加了一個箱子。因爲最近天氣溫暖乾燥，加上農場裡鮮花盛開，它們每天都在忙著擴建蜂巢。 🐝🌼
