Metta Farm is a small-scale farm located in Woodinville, Washington. Metta is a Pali (ancient Indian) word that means loving-kindness, which is the farm’s core value and the way every living being is treated on the farm. The Farm’s mission is to grow Asian variety vegetables through regenerative and organic farming practices to provide high quality and nutrient dense produce to the Asian community. The farm currently sells all its produce through its online store.

It is peak yellow jacket season and they have been hovering around the hives scavenging for dead bees and looking for an opportunity to enter the hives. I can’t find a robbing screen that fits my plastic bottom board well so I decided to make one myself with 1/8” hardware cloth. Seems like it is working well.

Now I know why Japanese melons are more expensive and less popular to grow. Even with meticulous care and pruning they can still fail due to environmental factors. I lost two plants this week due to the high humidity we have had recently, plus a few almost mature melons I have to salvage early due to cracking. Hopefully the rest will make it to the end! 🤞

現在我終於知道為什麼日本香瓜比較貴，種植的人也比較少。即使精心照料和修剪，它們還是會因為外在因素而失敗。因為最近濕度太高，這週我損失了兩株香瓜，還有幾個快要成熟的瓜因為裂果不得不提前摘掉。希望剩下的都能活到最後！ 🤞

Guess what flower this is! If you guessed morning glories, you have guessed it right… kind of. These are sweet potato flowers! A lot of people think sweet potato and potato are in the same family but they are actually in the morning glory family (Convolvulaceae).

One of my experimental projects this year is to grow premium Japanese musk melons. Yes, the one that sells in Japan for $50-$150 each! So far they are doing really well. This variety has sweet juicy green flesh that can reach over 16 Brix!
