Hello Farm Center Supporters!

We sure miss seeing all of your smiles especially during the holidays.

For the last several years, we have rented a temporary Christmas Tree Location off Topanga in Chatsworth to stay connected with our community.

Christmas has always been a special time for us as we started our first tree lot in the San Fernando Valley going all the way back to 1992.

Unfortunately, with all the winds that came through that area, we need to find a more suitable and permanent location.

For these reasons, we decided to keep our focus this year on securing that new location to rebuild the Farm Center for the community where we can once again offer all the family traditions, for all to enjoy!

Please stay connected here with us for all the updates as we have them! One great thing about Facebook!

We wish you and your families all a Merry Christmas, Happy and safe Holidays, and a prosperous New Year!

Love,
The McBroom Family

Hello everyone! Well it has been another terrible season for us at the Christmas Tree Lot on Topanga just North of Chatsworth for the second year with the horrible non stop winds! BUT, we just got another shipment of FRESH tree’s in TODAY! And, if you are looking for BIG trees, we have them!!!! We also have the small and mid size too! Tonight is a great night with just some gentle breeze!
Come on by and see your old farm crew, we sure miss you!!!!

To all affected by the fires, our hearts and thoughts are with you and your families!
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all!

Well as sweet as it was to hear on KEarth just a few minutes ago....The Female MC spoke about places to go for October and mentioned the Pierce Farm Center for our Corn Maze Adventures. Though we are still working hard to secure, build and open a new location we have not done so yet. I hope this doesn't cause any problems with people attempting to come out to find it is closed and has been since the end of 2014 (still very sad about it too) Happy October 1st to you all!

To all our supporters, Rob and Cathy’s Christmas trees has now re-opened on Topanga Canyon Blvd in Chatsworth. We hope that you will come see us at our new Christmas tree lot located at 10801 Topanga Canyon. Blvd. just North of Chatsworth Street.

We are so excited to be back within our community this Christmas. After closing the Pierce Farm Center, we have missed celebrating the holiday season along with being a part of your family traditions.

Our Foundation is working diligently to re-open the Farm Center for the community at a new location. A portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Farm Center Foundation to re-build the Farm Center and care for the animals that were displaced from Pierce College. Additionally, we will match any single donation up to 100.00 during the month of December.

We look forward to seeing you all again.

Happy Holidays.

Sincerely,

Rob & Cathy McBroom

Chancellor Dr. Francisco Rodrigues to tour the Pierce Farm Center

Hello Farm Family!

Since January, an effort to open communication at the Community College District level has now resulted in a commitment from the Chancellor to come out to the Farm Center and tour the facility. This visit is important in order to better understand the 10 years of agricultural development, community education and family tradition that has transformed fallow fields into a district agricultural asset.

Recently, and with thanks to the Student Trustee, La Mont Jackson, the McBroom Family was introduced to the Chancellor at a public reception held at Los Angeles Trade Tech. College. Dr. Rodriguez welcomed us and stated that his office was arranging a scheduled visit to the Farm Center and that he has listened to us and is interested in open communication.

Although the April 15 eviction deadline is approaching, the Farm Center remains completely intact and ready for the Chancellors tour. We are hopeful that after his visit, we will open a line of communication to establish positive goals that we all can achieve. It is our hope that this first step will allow members of the District Board of Trustees to also take the tour of the Farm Center facility in near the future. District awareness is important to better understand the needs and opportunities that the Farm Center offers to Student Education as well as the community and the importance and value to this type of partnership on or off the College campus.

It is unsure what the short term or long-term future is for the Farm Center at Pierce College or elsewhere. We do know this; there is no future without communication.

Whether the program remains at Pierce College or transitions to a neighboring location able to still reach our community, it will take the leadership of the Chancellor to help ensure the proper ability to achieve these goals and within a reasonable timeframe.

We are all excited to share with you this information and will keep everyone up to date as things progress. Thank you all for your support and with hope, we may re-open the Farm Center in the short term while developing plans to ensure a long term future either at Pierce College or within reach of our community.

Thank you,

The McBroom Family

Vote March 3rd to save the Pierce Farm Center

Your vote March 3rd can save and re-open the Pierce Farm Center. But, does your candidate care???

Vote and promote, share online and offline. Engage 5 friends to go to the poles and help make a difference.

Hello Farm Family,

Out of the 14 trustee candidates running for 4 seats of the LACCD board of trustees, we would like to let everyone know which candidates came out and toured the Pierce Farm Center. Please take a moment to learn which candidate showed support for the farm program, who ignored our invitation and who literally hung up on our calls.

It is important to know that there are 4 seats up for grabs for the LACCD trustee board in the March 3rd election. At least 3 out of 4 seats will be filled by newly elected trustees. These trustees will define a new board majority able to revisit the actions of the Pierce College administration in the suspicious closure of the Pierce Farm Center.

We invited all 14 candidates of the LACCD Board of Trustees to visit the Pierce Farm Center these past few weeks. All those who visited, shared the communities concerns for keeping the center open to the public and showed support to promote board transparency and public communication in a future process to re-evaluate the opening of the center.

To be fair to each candidate, we are providing a non partisan listing by each seat. All the trustee candidates are listed in the order of their visit to the farm. We are not endorsing any one candidate or political affiliation and leave it to you, the voter, to ensure that your candidate shares your concerns.

Seat 1
Andra Hoffman - supports the Farm Center
Mark Isler - supports the Farm Center
Maria “Sokie” Quintero - supports the Farm Center

Francesca Vega – unknown - NO RESPONSE to multiple invitations

Seat 3
Glenn Bailey- supports the Farm Center
Josef Essavi- supports the Farm Center
Sam Kbushyan- supports the Farm Center
Sydney Kamlager- supports the Farm Center

Seat 5
Dennis Washburn - Supports the Farm Center
(Write in candidate, write his name in your ballet grey security sleeve with LACCD seat 5)
Steve Schulte- supports the Farm Center

Scott Svonkin - NO RESPONSE to emails, and rudely hung up on our calls

Seat 7
John Burke- supports the Farm Center
Joyce Garcia- supports the Farm Center

Mike Fong – unknown - NO RESPONSE to multiple invitations

We truly appreciate the time and compassion that each candidate had shown us while taking the tour of the Pierce Farm Center.

Each candidate demonstrated their dedication to the academic and community service needs at a community college. We truly were touched by the positive comments made by each candidate for our efforts in preserving the farm experience for future generations to lean and appreciate agriculture.

This Next Tuesday March 3rd, It is anticipated that this election will have a record low turnout at the poles. This means that your vote is important.

Please Vote and urge your friends to Vote March 3rd. Share this massage to everyone you know. Share it online and offline and as a community, we can make a difference.

Hello all! Well it has been real sad for us all here at the Pierce Farm Center. December 26th was officially our last day to be open to you all! We have been routinely working on putting away Christmas and cleaning the property back to it's Spring Condition.

We have gone to Board of Trustees meetings and have invited the members out to the Farm Center to see what they are willing to close without ever visiting. We are hoping they will make the time to do so, as we are sure they will see the magic that all of you do.

Maybe, just maybe an open dialog could find a way to keep the Pierce Farm Center going! We feel we deserve an extension of time, after 10 years of commitment to the development of colleges own master plan.

We truly are dedicated to preserve the Pierce Farm Center at Pierce College or within reach of our community at another location. We have been actively working to negotiate for other land opportunities necessary to keep this community agricultural education center available to our community and for future generations.

We are always hopeful that we can move forward together with a open dialog that we have NEVER had with the Board of trustees and haven't had with the current college administration for the past 4 years.

Right now, additional time is necessary to continue this important agricultural program that the District and students can continue to benefit from, and the Community can continue to look forward to.

We thank you all for your support and hope you will continue to voice your opinion!

Celebrate the fall at the Pierce College Halloween Harvest Festival!

10/16/2014

Pierce Farm Center is back open

Hello Pierce Farm Center Family. Earlier today the college was closed down due to a threat on campus. The outstanding emergency response shown by administration and the sheriff department has quickly resolved the issue and we have been notified that we can reopen to the public.

As a precaution, for public safety the Pierce Farm Center closed during that time.

Again, we are please to let you all know that the Pierce Farm Center has reopened and welcomes you in for the Halloween Harvest Festival.
