This is raw honey that has never been heated or pasteurized. Our honey is run through a screen at the time of extraction to remove the larger wax particles. We do not micro filter the honey so you will still be getting all the healthy benefits it has to offer.

What did I find in my hive today? This is what is called a “white eyed drone”. (A drone is the male bee all the rest of the bees in the hive are female). It is a genetic mutation which is not that common. This drone will never get the opportunity to fly out and mate or even leave the hive at all. Unfortunately for him the mutation causes blindness. He will be fed and groomed the same as all the other drones by his sisters until he dies. Then he will be removed by the undertaker bees.🐝

It’s always nice to see your honey bees collecting pollen and nectar. She is collecting from the flower of a daikon radish. Brood production in the hive is ramping up in anticipation for spring. On March the 21st (Saturday) we installed ten 3lb packages into their new homes. We added a few frames of drawn comb to each hive. This gives the queen somewhere to start laying immediately upon release. Hopefully this will help up our honey and nuc production so we can more easily meet demands in the future. By bringing in bees other than the ones we raise is a good way to quickly diversify the genetics in our apiary. These new colonies along with the ones that we already have should produce lots of honey. So far this has been a good year for our bees.

I want to thank Gardner’s Apiary for selling and supplying us with the packages and queens. They are a pleasure to do business with and very professional.

We have been seeing loads of pollen coming into the hives for a few weeks now. We are now seeing returning bees heavily loaded with fresh nectar. They are starting to feel cells and will in time cure the nectar into sweet honey.
