Most of the time when we post here, we're telling you where you can find WheeBees or showing off something delicious we've made from the honey our girls worked so hard to produce.
But tonight, we've been doing the part you don't see nearly as often: working the bees. 🐝
The truth is, selling honey allows us to buy more equipment, replace what wears out, and purchase the things we need to care for our bees and process their honey. But at the heart of WheeBees, our main job isn't selling honey.
Our main job is raising healthy bees. And we're pretty proud of the job we're doing. ❤️🐝
We don't post a lot of pictures from the bee yards because we're a small family operation, and when it's time to work bees, it's pretty much all hands on deck. Nobody is standing around thinking, "Wait! Let me get a picture for Facebook!" We're focused on getting the job done.
And, if we're being completely truthful, beekeeping isn't always particularly photogenic. 😂 Our bee coats are dirty. We're hot and sweaty. Our hive boxes don't match. Some are old, some are newer, and they're painted whatever color happened to be in the cheapest mistinted-paint section when we needed paint.
There isn't a carefully coordinated color palette in the bee yard. Around here, it's function over beauty.
Like a lot of small businesses, we started with used equipment and added things as we could afford them. We've worked, learned, made mistakes, learned some more, and kept building.
It may not always be Instagram-worthy, but these bees are worth being proud of.
So tonight, we're sharing a little of the less-polished side of WheeBees—one of our bee yards, some of our beautiful girls, and a couple members of our hardworking family getting the job done.
We're proud of this little business. We're proud of our family. And most of all, we're proud of the healthy bees we've been blessed to care for.
And every time you buy a jar of honey, you're helping us keep doing exactly this. 🍯🐝
