Orchard 47 We are a local orchard growing primarily Gold Rush apples. This apple is not only the Illinois state fruit but a delicious, crisp and juicy apple.

Gold Rush Apples ripen in late October and are great for cider making, long term storage and general eating!

Today was summer clean-up around the base of all the trees. While you could use pesticides, I prefer to weedwack them once in the summer and once in the fall. It takes a while but ensures the fruit remains healthy. If left in-trimmed; voles, rabbits and other critters will make homes at the base of the trees and cause damage. Doing anything 105 times takes time but will be worth it in a few months when the cider is flowing! 🥂

Flowers are in full bloom on the orchard! While the majority of apple trees require cross pollination for a healthy apple harvest, some trees like the Golden Delicious on our orchard are self-pollinating.
