FIFA. Forced Norms, & The Butterfly Effect
With all this talk about merchants applying a 12% mandatory service charge at restaurants because other nations don't tip, sounds like more failing capitalism, once again passing the increased costs of all this global madness on down to the consumer. Watch how they keep this implemented long after the games and most likely raise it as they wish as their costs continue to rise.
TIPPING?
Seven years ago, we began this venture and I didn't even put out a tip jar because I didn't think the service I was providing really warranted tips since me and my wife are our only employees who serve people. I though the salary I took was sufficient, small, yet sufficient. COVID changed the tipping norms in the U.S and people began asking me to put out a tip jar or would voluntarily ask if they could add a tip on my SQUARE terminal. In the past 5 years since COVID most people voluntarily tip, and still, I do not work for tips, but I appreciate them because it allows me to apply THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT. The reason my prices are the same as my pre-covid prices, even though my cost of goods and operation has tripled, and we absorb the 2.5% of each sale + $0.15 per transaction fees for non-cash purchases is because of the GENEROSITY of people who tip. The people who tip, are actually keeping the prices stable at my shop. Even if you do not tip, AND YOU DO NOT HAVE TO IN ORDER TO BE TREATED THE SAME AS THOSE WHO DO, you are getting the price benefit of THE BUTTERFLY EFFECT and you have those who tip to thank for it.
in closing, we appreciate all of our customers tips or no tips, but the tippers have created enough balance to keep us from implementing the price increases that most all other food retailers have added in recent years from fees to service charges to mandatory tipping percentages. We want to keep our prices where they are and allow the choice to pay more than we are charging to the discretion of the consumer.
We value your patronage.
