After spending nearly a week dedicated to her dream of motherhood, Pearl convinced everyone she was finally ready for babies. She abandoned her social life, stopped contributing eggs to the household, and spent her days glued to a nesting box. She growled at anyone who came near and made it very clear that she was preparing for motherhood. As her supportive human, I decided to help her achieve her dreams and placed several adorable baby chicks under her care.
For approximately one hour, Pearl embraced motherhood. Then one chick committed the unforgivable offense of being a baby and started chirping for attention. Witnesses report that Pearl immediately realized children require constant supervision, emotional support, and may occasionally make noise. At that moment, Pearl stood up, sprinted to the coop door, and abandoned her family. The babies were left crying in the nest while Pearl attempted to resume her previous child-free lifestyle.
Thankfully, Chick Protective Services responded quickly. The chicks were safely removed from the neglectful parent and placed back into protective custody in the brooder. Pearl has since denied all allegations and maintains she was “just stepping out for a minute”
