It was a chilly…37F last night. These late emerging butterflies won’t make the migration as the temperature is too cold and there’s not enough nectar for the young butterflies to develop. They are one of the longest living butterflies (up to 8-9 months). We intentionally grow milkweed for these beautiful insects. As I find them, I put them in the greenhouse where there is some flower nectar, made nectar and water. This one had a rough night last night. It’s not able to fly yet and was grateful for the warmth and food.

It’s also delicious!
