Hello pawpaw friends! For the summer, we unfortunately will not be available for tours or seedling sales. Mabel has been "under the weather" and therefore we need to take a bit of a break. On a good front, pawpaws are progressing and the recent rainfall makes a great difference. For now, we are still planning on having an open house September 26 and 27, however that may change as Mabel's health allows. Hope everyone has a great summer! Loren and Mabel

For pawpaw enthusiasts all across Ohio, we would like you to be aware of an effort to establish the Zebra Swallowtail butterfly the official State Butterfly of Ohio! As you may be aware, pawpaw is the official native fruit of Ohio. Over the last couple of years, two of our local youths have been working on a project to promote establishing the Zebra our state butterfly. Joshua and Ruth Steiner have been studying, learning and presenting to various groups and organizations in our area, thereby educating many others about the Zebra and it's intimate link to pawpaws. This spring they presented their proposal to their local state representatives. House Bill 860 (HB 860) has now been introduced! If successful, this proposal will formally establish the Zebra Swallowtail as the State Butterfly of Ohio! We ask that all consider supporting this effort, which dovetails fully with pawpaw being the state fruit. We also encourage all to read about the pawpaw and Zebra's obligate connection!

We are so happy to see the success so far of Joshua and Ruth and their persistence - they are great kids and this has, we trust, been a great learning experience for them. May rich blessings be with them!

We are planning for an open house on Saturday, September 26th and Sunday, September 27th from 11 AM until 5 PM both days. Pawpaw education sessions with pawpaw growers, orchard tours, and a Zebra Swallowtail butterfly expert are on tap for the weekend. The Zebra Swallowtail butterfly is inextricably linked to pawpaw, as the butterfly larvae must feed on pawpaw to survive - and we are pleased to have the leading expert in the Zebra on hand to teach about this amazing butterfly and its pawpaw connection! (We suggest folks read about this butterfly beforehand.) There will be homemade ice cream (including pawpaw ice cream, YUM!) and BAMtatstic Eatz will be onsite serving sandwiches, etc. Look for additional updates during the growing season. While the open house will not require reservations, if you are interested and pretty sure you will be coming over, send us an email so that we can get an estimate of attendees. We look forward to seeing you in the fall to share some pawpaws! Loren and Mabel
