Winter on the homestead

Meet Edgar, our new rooster! We picked him up from an auction. Hes currently in isolation, but we’re hoping he gets along with the hens well when they meet.

With any luck, it will mean new chicks in the spring!

Were getting close to a dozen eggs a day now, and that’s after we lost three of our flock.

We now have 11 laying hens that are free-range. Once their eggs start to regulate in size, we will start offering them for sale!

On another note, these are eggs are so rich, our pancakes are now a yellow-ish color.

We now have a total of a dozen eggs. They’re all “fairy eggs”, but they’ll get bigger soon enough. We estimate that only three of our hens are laying eggs. Not bad for 19 weeks old. The rest will lay when they’re ready.

Harvesting a few things from the garden we started late. We also got two cabbages and some broccoli, but they got used.

We got our first egg today! Hopefully we’ll be able to start selling them by the end of the month!

The chicken coop has been finished and the chicks have been safely transferred.
