The reactions we later regret are often those made in haste before we know the whole story. Being truly curious naturally slows our reaction, allowing us to ask more questions and listen deeper. I have never regretted listening.

James 1:19a Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

When we don’t know what we are working toward, we tend to just go through the motions and focus on the issues of today. Taking a slight pause every day to remember the bigger purpose can change our mindset from "have to" to"get to".

Proverbs 29:18a Where there is no vision, the people perish

There are many “broken” things in our teams. Poor communication, assumptions, missed deadlines. Yet, they can shine in spite of those things. Yes, we need to work on what is not working AND we can celebrate the good that continues to happen.

Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything beautiful in its time.

As leaders we have a choice, we can call people up or call them out.

Judges 4:14 And Deborah said to Barak, “Up! For this is the day in which the Lord has given Sisera into your hand. Does not the Lord go out before you?”

Through all the seasons, all the years, there is not one day that the sun has not risen. A daily reminder that God is faithful and trustworthy. No matter what challenge or trial you are facing, look to the Son, He is faithful and trustworthy.

Maybe our mindset of scarcity vs abundance is related to our posture of control vs surrender?

Ephesians 3:20-21 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Give it to the Lord my friends. Quick to forgive, difficult to offend. The world needs mature leaders who model the ability to endure hardship well.

Proverbs 19:11 Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.

You may have a background as a problem-solver, listening for clues to find the answer. You may have a background in sales, listening for bridges to help solve a problem. There is nothing wrong with that type of listening, however as leaders, we need to listen to understand. Listening to respond is all about us, listening to understand is about the people we serve.

Proverbs 18:13 If one gives an answer before he hears, it is his folly and shame.

Our pace determines many things; what we observe, how well we listen. Our pace also needs to vary. There are times for fast and times for slow. In each day and in each season. Jesus walked and was interrupted often. I want to walk and be open to interruptions from the Lord.

1 John 2:6 whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked

By definition, giving is a verb, offering something to someone. God asks us to GIVE thanks to Him. As leaders, we can model giving thanks especially on the hard days. It is easy to let the situation determine our mood; I slipped into that yesterday when I found several broken items on the farm that were not reported. But when I stop and intentionally thank God for the people, the opportunities, and even the trials; mindsets shift and growth happens.

Psalm 50:14a Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving
