Farm to Table. Kids Edition.

The apples these kids eat in their school cafeteria are grown right here at Nystrom Orchard.

Through our Apples at Lunch program, we're taking that connection one step further by bringing students out to the farm.

They're walking through the orchard, learning how we grow and care for our trees, discovering where their food comes from, and feeding apples to our cows.

Our volunteers who are leading the lessons are all retired teachers and their curriculum they created for these tours is top notch.

From our trees to their lunch trays. And now back to the farm to see where it all begins.

That's farm to table education!

Today we are hosting over 200 kids from Prairie Elementary. Please note, our field trips are full for the year. If this is something your school would like to do next year, please ask your school lunch coordinator to reach out to us.

Thank you to the teachers who recognize the value of getting kids out of the classroom and onto the farm!

The shouts of joy we hear outside today while they are exploring are so fun to listen to!

When you realize you’re double fi***ng apples tonight during the nightly ”tasting drive”. Debating which one is better.

Checking on varieties and 😋😋😋.

So many kinds to choose from it’s like apple palooza. We even added a new SKU: “Mixed Picking Bag”.

It clearly became your favorite today!

But PLEASE don’t wait. We need to pick down our orchard this next two weeks. Your options will become limited for picking every day you wait.

Need apples and dessert for supper? Pop in, shop our pre-picked apples and take home a frozen apple crisp. It's even a rare Saturday morning where cinnamon rolls and croissant sourdough available!

Have an hour to get outside? Pick your own apples, find the Golden Apple, play a game and take a walk through the orchard.

Your visit can be a quick stop or an hour outdoors—it’s up to you.

Pick your own Keepsake, Cameo, Fireside, Haralson, Frostbite and Honeycrisp (limited picking).

Pre-picked Connell Red, Fireside, Regent, Haralson, Honeycrisp and Cameo are in the store, along with our full line up of made from scratch food. Add pork chops, a loaf of sourdough and roasted potatoes, and supper is set.

All the varieties are ready, and we need to pick the orchard down so we can store quality apples for the months ahead. If you want to pick, now’s your chance. After this weekend no guarantees for pick your own.

Thank you to the Community Health Workers Conference and Minnesota West for asking us to provide lunch for your attendees. When the conversation is about community health, good food feels like a good place to start.
