Dallefeld Cattle Company

Dallefeld Cattle Company Forage Developed Registered Hereford Cattle Dallefeld Cattle Company breeds registered Hereford cattle and is owned and operated by Karl Dallefeld. Why Hereford?

Karl has always had a passion for grazing management and production livestock farming. In 2012 Karl purchased his first registered Hereford cows and heifers. Fertility: One of the first strategies we employed was a shortened breeding season. We shortened our breeding season to 50 days, if a cow or heifer cannot get pregnant in within our relatively short breeding season she is removed from our pro

gram. Heifers are bred at 14 months of age to calve as 2 year olds. A DCC female must calve on year 2 and every year after to stay in the herd. Body Condition: Our cattle must maintain good body condition in order to move forward in our breeding program. Low energy maintenance requirements benefit the producer as the cattle are able to maintain body condition on poor or variable feeds. Docility: Herefords are famous for their sweetheart dispositions. We want our cattle business to be safe and enjoyable. Working cattle is a low stress situation for everyone. Calving Ease: All DCC females must calve unassisted to stay in the operation, heifers included. We intervene and help, but if she would have died out on the prairie she cannot stay. Udder Quality: We are very particular about udder quality in our cow herd. A beef cow’s only purpose is to produce a marketable calf. Our home grown bulls are kept out of our oldest cows with the best udders. We felt there was a need for grass type Hereford cattle. We like to think of our herd as a reservoir for moderately framed cattle within the Hereford breed. Herefords are an incredibly flexible and adaptable breed of cattle that compliment other breeds. In a grass-fed scenario they work great over Angus, Red Angus, or Red Devon Cows. They make a valuable and easily marketable black baldy replacement heifer or feeder calf. They cross well with Brahman or other exotic breeds in hot or humid climates. The list of crossbreeding options goes on and on. They compliment many other breeds so well and stamp a uniform calf crop.
