Planting season is here! Over the course of the last week we have planted the first rounds of broccoli, cauiliflower, cabbage, napa, bok choi, salad turnips, radishes, carrots, beets, spinach, cilantro, and much more to come this week.

Adam and I have been farming together since 2008! Then in 2022 we purchased Spirit Creek Farm together. If you're not familiar, Spirit Creek Farm makes lacto-fermented goods (such as sauerkraut) with our local, organic produce. It provides employment through the winter months for us and our crew, it provides a market for some of our favorite crops (cabbage being the most important), and provides our customers with some really high quality products. We didn't choose the easiest way to make a living, but it does have it's rewards, such as working side by side with good friends.

Adam and I (and our shared Spirit Creek Farm venture) were recently featured in the UMD Alumni newletter. They took the photos last fall and were kind enough to share them with us. I'm going to share some of my favorites over the next several days. This one is a drone shot with Adam's place (Uff-da Organics) in the foreground, and Northern Harvest in the background. This is an example of an early summer CSA box. It's got cabbage, spinach, romaine, lettuce mix, cilantro, and salad turnips.

One of the great things about being a CSA member is the diversity of produce you recieve from week to week. We've been told by members many times: "Opening the box is like Christmas every week".
