Wrentham Free Fridge & Farm Stand

Good news/bad news:

We had a very productive meeting with the town about the community fridge this week, and have a path forward. Still a few issues to work out around placement, but all solvable challenges.

The bad news: the farm stand won't be coming back. The town is claiming that any time you invite the public to your home that counts as a "Home Occupation" (literally a job run from your home), and thus requires a special permit.

That's not what our bylaws say, but filing an appeal is a purposely convoluted, laborious, and expensive process. We'll be focused on getting the fridge up-and-running instead.

If anyone is curious, I'm happy to share more about how the farm stand situation played out.

We're still working behind the scenes to bring the fridge and farm stand to town.

When this is all said and done, I'll share the incredible amount of nonsense and malice we've had to deal with in our mission to feed people.

Despite overwhelming support from Wrentham residents, our town's leadership seems to really not want the community fridge or farm stand to exist.

They're throwing a lot of bureaucracy at what should be a relatively simple thing, and working hard to keep us from opening.

UPDATE: Since some folks have asked, they've been very hesitant to say what their actual concerns are other than that they have some. We're (hopefully) meeting with town leadership in a week or two to discuss. They've been extremely slow to respond to all messages.

Slight pivot while we wait for the farm stand to reopen: if you need food, DM me. If you have food to share, DM me.

I'll connect the dots, privately and without judgment, so we can get people fed and reduce food waste.

UPDATE: the farm stand is temporarily shut down while I work out zoning issues with the Town of Wrentham.

They are claiming this qualifies as a "Home Occupation" despite it not being a job or anything being sold. I'm exploring options and next steps, but if anyone has or knows someone who has expertise in issues like this, I'd be grateful if you could connect us.

Are any fans of this page versed on town zoning (and interactions with HOAs)?

My HOA board seems to be willfully misinterpreting our governance docs and town zoning to shut the Farm Stand down, and having an expert answer some questions would be helpful.

FREE FOOD! The Free Community Farm Stand on Summit Circle in West Wrentham has soup, pasta, beans, tuna, and fresh potatoes and apples.

All free! Take what you need, and leave what you can.

Please share with anyone who could benefit from this, but also note this isn't charity. It's sharing with neighbors, and its for *everyone* (including folks like me who forgot to hit the grocery store and just realized they have nothing to cook for dinner)!

- Fresh apples

- Cans of soup, beans, and Chef Boyardee
- Pasta and sauce
- Oatmeal
- Peanut butter
- Snack!

Visit us on Summit Circle in Wrentham and take what you want (or leave stuff to share)!

(We even have paper bags you can use to carry stuff home.)

🥶 With freezing temps coming this evening, I just brought in all of the canned goods and veggies.

If you're dropping anything off at the farm stand over the next day or three, please ensure that it can tolerate freezing temps (or that it's above freezing at the time).

🌧️ The farm stand doors are closed because of the rain, but feel free to open them if you need something.

The latch is a bit sticky. I need to swap it out for something different.
