We have had some questions about how we harvest honey, so we are posting a couple of short videos on he process. After we get the honey frames off of the bee hives, they have to be decapped. The honey is extracted in a centrifuge. Next we run them through a fairly coarse seive to remove any remaining wax. Finally we bottle the honey. We have plenty of freshly harvested honey for sale now. Please reach out to us if you are interested.

Busy spring, bee swarms, hail storms, asparagus harvests, and a new well. We have opened an Instagram account that we update more often.

We have caught 5 swarms and made 3 splits, so with a little luck, we will have a lot of honey to sell starting around July 1.

Our first honey harvest is now complete. If you need honey, please contact us.

The storms reached Southwest Virginia yesterday. We had high winds, lightening (553 strikes in a couple of hours according to our weather station), hail, and an inch of rain in less than 30 minutes. Hay field is flattened, more than 50 trees down, vegetable garden is shredded, and fencing is down everywhere. Plenty of work to do to get the farm back in order.

We are still trying to recover from the bear attacks. We have repaired all of the hive bodies and put new frames and foundation in all of the hives as we prepare to add new colonies of bees to them so we can supply all of our customers with honey. We are going to buy some colonies, catch some swarms, and make a few splits. Hopefully we will have a full bee yard soon!

Well sometimes surprises come in bunches. We have had seven new calves in the last 10 days. This little cutie is a bull calf that Katie named Vern, because he was born on the vernal equinox.

Ha'Penny, HayPenny, had a tough couple of days after birth. Very cold nights, and moist ground made him lethargic. I went out every morning and mid day and put him in the sun and rubbed him to stimulate blood flow. He is now fine and a great looking little guy!

We had an unexpected addition to our farm today. The cow's name is Penny. We are calling the calf ha'penny.
