Milk and Honey Farm

Milk and Honey Farm We are a small family farm.

Our goal is to grow a full diet for ourselves, so that we don't have to depend on or support supermarket-style agriculture for anything we (or our animals) eat, not just the obvious fresh vegetables, but everything from the wheat for our bread to mustard seed for homemade prepared mustard to the figs and blueberries and jujubes, etc. to replace conventional supermarket fruit to the homemade rennet

and home-cultured bacterial cultures for the cheese we make from our all-grass-fed cow's and goat's milk, and to then offer the products of that same style of radically homegrown farming to our customers. We believe in growing in as homegrown a style as possible, minimizing (and eliminating where feasible) the use of plastics and other expendable non-local inputs, and not using any synthetic fertilizers or pesticides at all, while saving a majority and as much as possible of our own seed (cooperating with like-minded friends and neighbors) in order to steward the genetic resources on which a truly alternative style of farming depends. What we call our "Full Farm CSA" is our plan for enabling our customers to move toward a full diet of homegrown food with us (and the Vegetable CSA is a smaller first step in the same direction.)

We'll be at the Statesville Farmers Market from 8:30 until 11:00 with lots and lots of snow peas. We didn't have snow this morning but we did have a frost. May 15th and we had a frost! Thankfully we'd covered the sensitive crops and everything else was fine.
We'll also have fresh cut herbs, lettuce heads and mix, green garlic, sh*take mushrooms, chard, kale, collards, cabbage, beets and radishes. We hope to see you there.

The forecast was calling for chilly nights this past weekend so we covered the sensitive crops with every piece of fabric we had. Our farm is low lying and our lowest gardens are very prone to frost. Thankfully, our efforts kept things safe.
We'll be at the Mocksville Farmers Market Wednesday afternoon. We hope to see you there!

We got the sweet potatoes all bedded this week so they can start growing slips. The corn cobs are separating varieties - we're growing 30 different kinds this year. After this picture was taken, we covered the sweet potatoes with a thick layer of aged sawdust then covered the whole bed with old storm windows. We still have some sweet potatoes available for eating or for growing your own slips.
