The latest releases from Yakima Valley Vintners showcase the creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning of students in Yakima Valley College’s Vineyard and W**ery Technology program. Each w**e reflects a different lesson in w**emaking, from experimental techniques and careful observation to blending, variety selection, and the culmination of a student’s work from harvest through bottling.
TO BE RELEASED IN SEPTEMBER:
2025 Proctored Exam Sauvignon Blanc
Shaped through oak-inspired experiments and refined with teamwork, this w**e reveals a rich body and a touch of spice. Guidance from our ever watchful proctor reminded us to consider not only innovation, but the palate of the consumer. Crafted under careful observation, it reflects discipline, problem solving, and the art of working together—proof that structure and creativity can coexist beautifully in the glass.
2025 Controlled Study Marsanne
What happens when curiosity meets the cellar? Controlled Study Marsanne is the answer to that question. This Marsanne is the classroom in a bottle. Student w**emakers explored liquid oak trials instead of traditional barrel aging to shape the flavors and textures of this w**e. With aromas of almond, white peach and honey, it highlights the precision, curiosity, and creativity behind this w**e. In this study the students learned, the experiment succeeded, and the results are worth tasting.
2023 Late Registration Petit Verdot
Petit Verdot is known as a late-ripening variety, and the warm climate of Elephant Mountain Vineyard perfectly captures its full character. Just like a late class registration can lead to unexpected benefits, this w**e reveals its greatness with time. It boasts a robust structure, featuring rich dark fruit flavors, complemented by notes of plum and red apple. Ideal pairings include grilled steak, roasted pork, or meats with bacon, making for a truly delightful culinary experience.
2023 Studio Super Tuscan
A Super Tuscan is a bold red w**e from Tuscany, Italy, that combines international grape varieties with Sangiovese. Our Super Tuscan style blends a base of Sangiovese (78%) with other red varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon (14%), Malbec (7%), and a splash of Primitivo (1%). This w**e has great aromas of blackberry, cherry, and violet, with flavors of coffee and raspberry. You’re sure to enjoy the balanced structure and bold tannins of the studio Super Tuscan.
2023 Dean’s List Malbec
The Dean’s List Malbec blend is more than just w**e -it’s a final project: a hands-on education from harvest to final bottling. Created by the student w**emakers of Yakima Valley College, this w**e represents a culmination of study, collaboration, and passion. This w**e shows a deep ruby color and bold aromas of hibiscus, plum, and subtle floral notes. The palate offers rich layers of dark fruit, cherry, and spice, with a structured tannin profile and a smooth, lingering finish. Balanced, expressive, and academic in spirit, this w**e pairs perfectly with grilled meats, aged cheese, and celebratory moments- whether that’s finishing finals or raising a glass at graduation.
