Boring habits I learned because I wanted to be a healthy example for my kids:
Prioritizing protein at every meal - EVERYDAY.
- When I talk about food, I talk about how itâs FUEL for our bodies and its power in bringing people together. Itâs never good food vs bad food.
- I donât talk bad about my body - even at 35 weeks pregnant and 35lbs heavier than my normal weight.
Kids follow their parents lead and thatâs important to remember. In every stage of our lives, our bodies are beautiful and strong and capable.
- Exercising/strength training multiple times per week.
Movement is vital to our health and they see it as a normal part of adult routines vs wanting to just sit around and watch a screen.
- I drink water and add high quality electrolytes when I feel I need it. No soda or juices or alcohol. Just filtered water, sometimes on the rocks đ. Because of this, they never ask for, or expect, anything else but water with their meals.
My kids arenât learning health from the occasional perfect meal or workout. Theyâre watching whether I nourish myself. Theyâre watching whether I move my body because I value it. Theyâre watching how I talk about food. Theyâre watching how I talk about myself. Theyâre learning from what they watch me do over and over again.
And none of these habits are âimpressiveâ. They are small & quiet and consistent. And one day, those boring little habits will become their normal.
That's the example worth leaving. Not the perfect meal. Not the perfect body. Just a mom who took care of herself consistently enough that her kids grew up thinking that's just what people do.
