Due to unforeseen circumstances we’re closing sales for the season early. Everyone (including this cute dog) is fine, just a lot of life happening all at once. Thank you for all the support this season.

I was totally going to pinch the dahlias (1), and stake them and the glads (2) to reduce floppage. But hey, maybe next year! They’re gorgeous either way. #3 is a sneak peek towards fall: pumpkin-on-a-stick is an ornamental eggplant shaped like a lil pumpkin that turns orange and makes for some unique fall decor. The plants themselves absolutely belong in a goth garden - deep purple stems and covered in wicked thorns!

Every year I take dozens of photos of frosty plants and structures because I adore the crystalline aspect of this season so much. Hope you’re cozy, wherever you are (:

Still scrounging up a few cold hardy flowers to brighten our house. The big fall project of planting narcissus, Dutch iris, camas and more is finally done. The rose patch is now home to some 3,000+ bulbs and I’m stoked to see what it looks like in years to come! I’m also experimenting with growing tulips in bulb crates because gophers have eaten pretty much every single one I’ve ever tried to grow in-ground. Enjoying the slower season but already giddy for next spring.

There’s a significant feeling of disbelief that a few months ago this was a vague plan and a whole bunch of seeds. Now it’s flowers flowers flowers and I am beyond enamored. Matt (husband) is excited there are more ‘interesting’ colors to work with (e.g red, yellow and orange). Now, who wants to fill their whole house with flowers? Cuz we could make that happen.

Took off into the Cascades and found a patch of fairy slipper orchids (Calypso bulbosa). Day made! It’s always a goal of mine to find an orchid when wandering in the spring and early summer, and today definitely counts as a success.

It’s not a farm without a tuckered out dog following you around, flopping through newly planted seedlings. More plants in the ground today! Flower farm in progress, I think.

Yesterday I ran across this little hairstreak butterfly hanging out on a pluot tree. Looking forward to seeing more insect activity as the season progresses! Also featuring a willow, ‘Iceberg Alley’, and honey berry blooming.

Sagebrush in snow is one of my favorite views in winter. People in the landscaping world talk about adding ‘winter interest’ to gardens, and sagebrush is a natural for that category. So add some winter (+ spring, summer and autumn) interest to your landscape and plant some sagebrush!

Now that we have some single digits in the forecast, I feel marginally more justified for dreaming of spring with such longing. A few spring beauties from last season: sweet peas, stock and foxglove.
