It's very hard on the beef industry to have a spur of the moment import that supposedly will lower price of beef in the store.
In all honesty I will be shocked to see any decrease in the grocery store prices, but what this did to our industry is crash the beef market.
The packer is now paying roughly $800 less per head than the packer was paying all summer.
It takes roughly 18-20 months to get a calf ready for slaughter!
That calf has a lot of expenses wrapped up in it.
Majority of our family operations were counting on this price not to crash! And the worst part that $800 crash now puts the beef producer in a big negative profit position!
Stuff like this reminds us why we started our direct to consumer business and how important is it for us to continue to grow it!!
