I now have some new occupants in my beehive. Just a small colony but it will grow. Hopefully just like my pastured egg biz I am also trying to grow this year too. 😉

Had a honeybee swarm visit overnight Saturday, so tried to notice them to stay by fixing up a borrowed hive from my landlady. They already had plans so I spent all Sunday afternoon fixing it up for the next swarm. Just needs new foundations and it’s move in ready! I’ll paint it fun colors as I find them on the Lowe’s clearance shelf! 🐝

16 out of 20 laying hens gave me eggs this morning. Ended up with a dozen large and up! Nutmeg, my one Amerauracana, is still put off by the move to the communal hen house because it’s predator season, so she’s been on strike this past week. Almost all the new girls are laying now so I need to get a couple more nest boxes put up since it’s rush hour at the boxes between 9:30-10:30am every morning.

Up to 5 laying from the Pullets I bought at the beginning of March, and about a week into laying I got the first LARGE egg today! Yay!!!

I’m up to two new girls laying now! Both successfully laid in the nest box I put in last evening. 😁 One “small” and one “medium”

One of our Golden Comet pullets just laid her very first egg!!! Not a bad weight for a first egg either. Just has to get up to 2.0 oz to be graded a large. 😁

Added some new ducklings and a couple goslings to the flock today. These are impromptu replacements for a DOA order I received this morning of female runner ducks; that I ordered three months ago. The fawn and white runners are straight run, so I will probably be looking for homes for the males in about 6 weeks.

A tiny success, lol. Started some asparagus from seed last year and it came back up this spring. Taste rather yummy raw at this very young age! Next year, once it’s in its permanent spot, I really look forward to eating a couple spears again.

Animal Sales Policy
Borderwinds Farm & Fiber’s rabbits and cavies are sold on a limited, first come, first serve basis,
We can hold a rabbit or cavy with at least a 50% deposit, whereupon a time/location to meet has already been decided (locally, at an upcoming show we are already planning to attend, etc.). The remaining balance is due on/before pick-up. If you fail to make arrangements, or to pick up your rabbit or cavy within our agreed time, it will go back up for sale, and you will forfeit your deposit.
Please Note: Borderwinds Farm & Fiber is a CLOSED RABBITRY AND CAVIARY. Visitors are NOT allowed to view our facility under any circumstances – Our rabbits’ and cavies’ health and safety comes first. Biosecurity is paramount in maintaining our herd’s health and wellbeing, period. For this reason, a mutually agreed-upon location, or reputable transport must be organized for pick-up. In the past, we’ve suffered a severe loss by just accidentally bringing back a simple bacteria from an off-site location, so a biosecure rabbitry and caviary will be maintained indefinitely.
Transport MUST be arranged prior to holding a rabbit or cavy. No exceptions.
We do allow 3rd Party Transports, however, we reserve the right to cancel a sale, if we do not feel comfortable with your chosen transport.**
Accepted methods of payment – PayPal (preferred), Cash, USPS Money Order.
Borderwinds Farm & Fiber reserves the right to refuse/cancel a sale at any time.
Refunds will not be issued for any of the scenarios listed above = **
Health Guarantee
All rabbits and cavies are given regular health checks. We will never knowingly sell a sick/injured rabbit or cavy.
It is up to you, the buyer, to check over your rabbit or cavy extensively prior to release.
Once a rabbit or cavy leaves Borderwinds Farm & Fiber, he/she is your responsibility. We will not be held accountable for vet bills/replacements/refunds of any kind.
Show Quality “Promise”
We strive to produce quality animals. Show quality rabbits and cavies are free of DQs, major faults, and adhere to the ARBA Standard of Perfection (2016 – 2020) to the best of our knowledge. Competitiveness on the show table is not guaranteed, however, unless otherwise disclosed, our rabbits and cavies are good contenders.
Once a rabbit or cavy leaves our care, you, as the exhibitor/groomer are held responsible for coating.
Borderwinds Farm & Fiber is not to be held accountable for the rabbit’s or cavy’s future show career. That is completely dependent upon the new owner’s husbandry and grooming skills.
We do sell our show quality rabbits and cavies, and brood stock, with pedigrees (partial, half, or full) when, and if possible.
Terms & Pricing
Coated show animals are priced depending on quality, potential, & overall temperament.
Brood quality rabbits’ and cavies’ pricing is TBD by Borderwinds Farm & Fiber, depending on breed, bloodlines, breeding history, and temperament.
Pricing is up to Borderwinds Farm & Fiber’s discretion, and we reserve the right to raise or lower our pricing guidelines as we see fit.
