This is our world. 🤎
Cattle. Land. Fresh air. Family.
There has been a LOT of work, time, sweat, and sacrifice that has gone into building and developing this ranch into what it is today—and we aren’t done yet. There will always be another fence to fix, another pasture to improve, cattle to check, projects to tackle, and something new to learn.
It takes time. It takes hard work. It takes showing up on the hot days, the cold days, the long days, and even the days when you’d rather be doing something else.
A lot of people spend their spare time on vacations, hobbies, or other adventures. And don’t get me wrong—we still make time for fun and enjoy ourselves. But our spare time is sparse at times. And much of it looks a lot like this.
Yesterday, all four of us got to go check cattle and do chores together. It had been awhile since it was a true family event because, with the heat, we’ve been dividing and conquering to get everything done.
But last night, little Miss Muffin decided she wanted to take her list out to the pasture. She had spent the day writing her cattle records and making a list on which cattle she wanted to look at and which ones she thought we needed to sell.
Did she actually write numbers? 😂
Nope. No is just 4. Just a bunch of circles and lines.
But that wasn’t really the point.
She has been watching. She sees what Daddy does. She sees us checking cattle, keeping records, paying attention to the details, and caring for this place. And she wanted to be part of it.
So Daddy took the time to walk through the pasture with her and check every cow on her very important list. ❤️
It was such a simple, sweet moment—but it reminded me of why we do all of this.
We aren’t just building a ranch.
We’re building a legacy.
We’re giving our children the opportunity to grow up learning where their food comes from, how to care for animals and land, what hard work looks like, and what it means to take responsibility for something bigger than yourself.
We’re giving them a place to learn by doing. A place where their little contributions matter. A place where they can feel like they’re an important part of the team.
Someday, maybe those circles and lines will turn into real numbers and cattle records. Maybe she’ll know every cow in the pasture by name or number. Maybe she’ll help make decisions about the land. Or maybe she’ll choose a completely different path.
But whatever she chooses, we hope she carries with her the lessons she’s learning right here.
Work hard. Take care of what you’ve been entrusted with. Love your family. Respect the land. And always be willing to learn.
This is our world.
And we’re grateful our kids get to grow up in it. 🌱🐄🤎
