It doesn’t look like much yet but a lot of sweat, muscle aches and poison ivy rashes have gone into this hillside. And it’s only about halfway done. I’m really excited how it will look in the years to come. Once things get established, we’ll prob be taking down the walnut trees. Here’s what we’ve planted so far:
• elderberries
• joe-pye w**d
• yellow giant hyssop
• anise hyssop
• milkw**d
• blazing star
• black-eyed Susan
• creeping phlox
• yarrow
• St. John’s wort
• cardinal flower
• blue star
• golden rod
• clethra
• Culver’s root

Here are some recent highlights since we haven’t posted in some time…
1- Zach’s been busy catching swarms. Not just on our farm lol. We’re on the YCBA swarm list. Make sure you reference it if you see a swarm. 🐝
2- We have elderberry stakes/plants with roots available at our stand.
3- Some new duckies and chickens joined the flock.
4- We are up to 15 hives. Hoping to expand more somewhere else in the near future.
5- Zach and I had a great time mead sampling with the YCBA at . Def check it out!
6- Clearing the hillside and planting it has been a slow work in progress. These roots are no joke. I dug out lots of black raspberries to plant in their own beds. Lots of elderberries and other natives going into the hillside. Really excited for work to begin soon on leveling our farm out more. Lots more elderberries going in afterwards!
7- Our gardens have taken a little bit of a back seat this year but we’re still getting somewhere. Def having flower arrangements again this year at the stand. 💐 I planted 100s of sunflowers in this bed.
8- Many of the natives we are planting in the hillside are from our own yard. I cleared out other beds and pulled out lots of native volunteers (with some help 🙃)

June will be the month of lots of planting. 😅

Update: We’ve been busy 🐝s working on cleaning up the gardens and wrangling brambles (see before & after pics). Soil blocks have been started and things are going into the ground this weekend. 🌱 Lots of projects to work on this year! 😅 We’ll be working on landscaping with native, pollinator friendly plants. The bees have done fairly well over the winter and they’ll be ready to start swarming in no time it seems. We still have raw honey, creamed honey, elderberry syrup and chicken/duck eggs (when we have extra). Stop by our stand or message us to place an order. ☺️

What a beautiful false spring day! The daylight hours are getting longer and the chickens are laying more. That means we’ll have the cooler out with eggs as we have extra! First come, first serve only. $5/dozen. We’ll also have duck eggs available too.

Today we have our stand open with chicken eggs, raw honey, creamed honey & elderberry syrup. We’ll have it out the next couple of days while it’s warmer. You can also order for pick up (except eggs). If you are ordering for pick up please tell us a day/time that works for you in advance. Lastly, go enjoy this long awaited day! 😊

It is beautiful out today and I’m taking the opportunity to make elder wands 🪄😉 aka elderberry cuttings for the muggles lol. There is definitely some magic in these native plants though. I’m cutting them back now before they bud for better growth and berry production. I cut them back almost to the ground and they’ll be taller than me again come August. The wands/cuttings we’ll be planting and possibly selling later in the spring. Only 20 more days until Spring 🌷, not that I’m counting. 🙃
