We had a blast joining OnTECH Charter High School's Grow, Gather, and Give Festival last week; and we couldn't pass up the chance to celebrate what their Community Outreach interns pulled off.

These students didn't just talk about waste in their Syracuse neighborhood; they went out and collected real data on the trash and litter they found. Then they took it a step further: they UPCYCLED that trash into original artwork, turning discarded materials into a powerful visual statement about waste in their community.

That's exactly the mindset we're all about. At our table, we got to connect with students and families about what it really means to waste less, and just as importantly, what happens to the waste we can't avoid. Because trash doesn't have to be the end of the story. When it's upcycled instead of landfilled, it gets a whole new life.

Huge congrats to the OnTECH interns for turning data collection and community awareness into art with a message. Keep upcycling! ♻️

Plastic Free July gets us thinking about how much plastic ends up in the waste stream, but what happens when food and packaging are already mixed together? That's where our depackaging technology comes in.

At Natural Upcycling, we use advanced depackaging equipment to separate organic material from its plastic packaging; pulling expired products, damaged goods, and food waste out of bags, containers, and film, and diverting the organic content to beneficial reuse instead of the landfill.

🌱 Food waste gets diverted and put back to productive use
♻️ Plastic packaging is separated out and properly managed
🚛 Less material heading to landfills overall

It's a simple idea with real impact: waste doesn't have to be all-or-nothing.

With the right technology, we can recover the organic value trapped inside packaged waste; reducing landfill volume and closing the loop on materials that used to be considered trash.

This Plastic Free July, we're proud to be part of the infrastructure making that separation possible.

National Refreshment Day is July 23, and behind every refreshing beverage is a production process that generates more waste than most people realize.

We're proud to work with beverage producers like Upstate Milk, helping manage the organic waste generated during production, from processing byproducts to off-spec product that doesn't make it to shelves.

Beverage manufacturing runs on volume, and even the most efficient plants generate organic waste streams that need somewhere to go besides a landfill. That's where we come in. Natural Upcycling partners with beverage plants across the region to divert that waste and put it to productive use.

Check out the video below to see what that partnership looks like in action at Upstate Milk. This National Refreshment Day, we're raising a glass to the producers who prioritize sustainability at every step of the process, not just in the bottle, but behind the scenes too.

As of January 1, 2027, the compliance threshold for New York's Food Donation and Food Scraps Recycling Law will drop from 2 tons of food waste per week to 1 ton. The required service radius also will expand; businesses will need to check for an organics recycler within 50 miles, not 25.

If your business hasn't reassessed where it stands under the new numbers, now's the time. We can help you figure out whether you're covered and what compliance actually looks like in practice.

What looks like waste to most is dinner to them, and soon, it'll be nutrient-rich vermicompost feeding the soil. This is food waste diversion in action.

"Do we need to buy our own bins, or do you provide them?"

We provide the bins. Pickup is then scheduled. Most businesses find the actual day-to-day footprint smaller than they expected going in.

If you've been putting off a conversation about organics recycling because you assumed it meant a big operational change; it usually doesn't.

Happy National Dairy Month to all the processors, farmers, and facilities who work hard every day to bring dairy products to market.

🐄 We're proud to partner with dairy processors across the region; recovering byproducts through our dehydration process and turning them into quality animal feed. The dairy industry already does incredible work. We're just here to help make sure every part of it counts.

We're growing fast and this week, you'll find us in two places at once.

Our CEO Harry Cohen is in Nashville, TN at the Organics Recycling Conference, speaking on early market development; exploring how the organics diversion and recycling market evolved, and how that history continues to shape today's diversion models and technologies.

Michael Boerman is in Washington, D.C. at the Waste Leadership Summit, connecting with the industry leaders, policymakers, and investors tackling the most pressing challenges in waste and recycling operations.

Natural Upcycling is growing to be one of the largest organics recyclers in the country. With operations across 14 states and a team that keeps expanding, we're not a startup anymore. We're the infrastructure.

Attending either conference this week? Let's connect.

Welcome to Natural Upcycling, Amanda!

Amanda Streamer is a lifelong Western New Yorker, born and raised in Pavilion, NY, who earned her degree in Accounting from Alfred State College before building a career that reflects both her professional depth and her personal values. She spent eight years handling accounting for a local RV dealership and concrete company, then made the intentional choice to step away from the workforce for twelve years to raise her son. That kind of decision takes confidence, and Amanda brought that same confidence right back with her when she returned.

Over her career, Amanda has taken on just about every function an accounting department can throw at someone, from accounts receivable and payable to payroll, human resources, collections, and bank management. Most recently, she gained direct experience in the transfer and recycling industry before joining Natural Upcycling as a Staff Accountant, making her transition here feel like a natural next step.

Outside of work, Amanda's world revolves around her husband Matt, their son, and whatever activity happens to be on the schedule next. Whether it's cheering their son on at his many sports, camping, or just finding any excuse to be outside with friends and family, she brings that same energy and enthusiasm to everything she does.

We are thrilled to have her on the team and cannot wait to see what she helps us build.
