I had the opportunity today to take a private site walk-through of The Bakery Complex, coming soon to West York. Let me tell ya this building is incredible. 🏗️🍞

What makes this project so special is that they aren’t simply creating something new. They’re finding ways to bring the history and character of this building back to life.

The property has deep roots in the York community. J.B. Fishel started his bakery business on West King Street in 1910, and in 1925 expanded into the 52,000-square-foot bakery building that still stands today. At its peak, the bakery was producing more than 24,000 loaves of bread a day.

Walking through it Monday, some of my favorite details were the pieces of the original building that are being incorporated into its next chapter, the original tin ceilings, old doors and architectural details, and one of the coolest transformations: an original vault being turned into a cigar lounge.

There is something special about seeing an old building retain the pieces that tell its story while being completely reimagined for a new generation.

The Bakery Complex is being transformed into a destination for food, drinks, entertainment, events and more, all while preserving the character of a landmark that has been part of this community for more than a century.

Projects like this are about so much more than renovating a building. They bring investment, activity and new energy into a community and I love seeing this kind of adaptive reuse breathe new life into York County.

I’m excited to watch The Bakery come together and even more excited for everyone to eventually experience what is being created inside these walls.

History preserved. A building reimagined. A new chapter for West York. 🐝🏗️

Another big piece of The Bakery Complex came together. 🚗🙌
