I wanted to talk about small farms, how fast they are disappearing and how important it is to support them in any way you can.

Critter alert! We’ve been battling a raccoon. We’ve lost over a dozen chickens, so I’ll need to trap him tonight!

Marshmallows seem to be the best bait for them!

Ducks are laying like crazy! We’ll be doing a fertility check on the eggs here soon, and then we’ll start incubating to hatch out ducklings to raise for meat!

To quote my old Navy buddy Aaron Losey, the plucker is just a mosh pit, and the result is clean poultry! Although he was here helping when we were plucking ducks 😂.

This is how we remove feathers from all of the poultry we raise and process. Without this machine, we probably wouldn’t process anything.

We go over our scalder. This piece of equipment is vital to our processing operation. It allows the feathers to become loose in preparation for plucking.

It’s a processing day today. We will be processing older hens and using them for dogfood. This is a great way for our farm and other like ours to remain profitable:

Of all of our animals, eggs are the least profitable. This is one way that we try to keep our costs down and stay profitable with eggs.
