Gas Station Jerky Is Ruining Jerky’s Reputation

I hear the same thing every weekend when giving out samples at festivals and events:

“I don’t really like beef jerky.” So I ask them what kind they’ve tried. And almost every time, the answer is the same:

• Gas station jerky
• Convenience store jerky
• Mass-produced grocery store brands

Then I tell them:

“You've never tried jerky that I make.”

Eventually, I get them to sample some. And almost every single time, the reaction is the same:

“This is completely different.”
“I love the texture.”
“WOW! This is really good.”

And a lot of those people end up buying a bag or more. Some become regulars. And some still tell people to this day:“The only jerky I like is Big John’s.” I even have customers who barely eat meat at all…except for Big John's Beef Jerky.
