Pregnancy is a remarkable journey, as one or more fetuses develop and mature within a woman's uterus. A multiple pregnancy refers to the development of multiple fetuses, such as twins or triplets.
Early symptoms of pregnancy include missed periods, breast tenderness, morning sickness (nausea and vomiting), increased hunger, implantation bleeding, and frequent urination.
🌸 Pregnancy Stages: First, Second, and Third Trimester
Pregnancy is divided into three trimesters, each lasting approximately 12-14 weeks, starting on the first day of the last menstrual period, for a total of approximately 40 weeks.
During each trimester, the fetus undergoes important developmental milestones leading up to birth.
👶 Prenatal Development Explained
Prenatal development (derived from the Latin word natalis, meaning "related to birth") encompasses all stages of embryonic and fetal development during pregnancy.
It begins with fertilization, continues through the embryonic stage, and progresses through fetal development until birth.
By the 10th week of pregnancy, the embryo has assumed a recognizable human form and is called a fetus. From then on, organs begin to mature and grow. While early embryonic stages are similar in all mammals, later embryonic stages and gestation length vary across species.
