Amazing how well the bell pepper 🫑 high tunnel is still doing. But it is time to prep the ground for winter and next season. Before we pulled the plants we picked several buckets of peppers 🫑.
So Thursday we will offer the honor system again. Stop out and stock up (eat them now or freeze them for later!)
Field corn harvest time = field dinner!!
We have had several calls about wanting to stop out today and purchase a few more pumpkins, mums and produce. We will operate today on the honor system. Cash only.
Pumpkins - $1, $2 and $4
Mums -$3, hanging -$10
Produce- tomatoes 🍅 , bell peppers 🫑 , potatoes 🥔, sweet banana peppers, cabbage, spaghetti squash, acorn squash and butternut squash.

Busy day! We took our wagon (mobile pumpkin patch) to Muncie Power Products for an employee event and then hosted YHS Spanish Club for a wagon ride / upick 🎃 patch! We love fall!

Our Sunflower Field is open and showing amazing color. Take a stroll back to the sunflower field, enjoy the beautiful sunflowers, take your own pictures and selfies (we have some props set up for you) and cut a stem to take home. Costs - $5/per person (children under 2 are free). Want extra stems -$2 each.

Indian Corn season is here. So fun to shuck back the husk to see all the different colors!
Our end of summer/fall sunflower field has been planted. Now we need some rain!

It’s been 6 seasons since we covered this high tunnel. We have been spending the last few days taking the plastic off. We will let the winter rains/snow work with the cover crop to enrich the soil. Come spring it will get recovered and planted with tomatoes!
We are looking for new ways to get Yorktown Indiana grown watermelons and cantaloupes ready earlier in the season! So we are trying new equipment - a low tunnel machine. Cantaloupe and watermelon plants were first planted in these rows. The tractor drives the low tunnel machine over the rows as it installs hoops every so many feet followed by a thin layer of plastic to make a covered hoop. This will create a much warmer environment for the plants to grow. In a few weeks we will remove the tunnel and the plants will be well established. Ideally we will be several weeks ahead of our traditional planted melon gardens. Keep checking our page for updates on how the plants under the tunnels are growing. #spanglerfarmsmarket
