Over the past four years, a journey has unfolded that has tested not only a vineyard, but a belief system: that small, family-owned agricultural businesses deserve to survive, to be heard, and to continue contributing to the cultural and economic fabric of Napa Valley. At its core, this is about the endurance of foundational, multigenerational family enterprises—the kind of businesses that do not arrive as trends, but as legacies built through decades of labor, stewardship, and risk.
These are the growers, farmers, and producers who helped shape Napa Valley into what it is today. Long before global recognition and agritourism, it was their blood, sweat, and sacrifice that built the foundation. Yet even now, their survival is not guaranteed. In a landscape of increasing regulation and consolidation, the ability of small businesses to simply continue operating has become an act of persistence in itself.
It is in that spirit that we are honored to share a pre-release announcement of our newest wine, The Eighth Amendment — Wines Without Excessive Fining, inspired by that journey and by the belief that what is taken from the land should not be overly stripped away before it reaches the glass. This philosophy carries from land to our business, and the businesses that shepherd them to survival to the next generation – like Hoopes vineyard.
This release commemorates not only a wine, but a broader defense of small business viability, property rights, and the principle that family-run agricultural enterprises should not be displaced from the very land they helped make valuable. It also recognizes the meaningful support of the Pacific Legal Foundation, whose advocacy has underscored the importance of fairness, due process, and the ability of small businesses to survive within increasingly complex regulatory frameworks.
The Eighth Amendment Red Cuvee is made from the field-blend grapes of Oasis, from our vineyards in the Yountville and Napa Valley AVAs. The red is a proprietary, Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend interwoven with Oasis red varietals —structured yet expressive, rooted in place, and reflective of endurance through adversity.
The Eighth Amendment Proprietary White Blend is crisp and luminous, with a clear Napa Valley perspective, and carrying forward the fruits of struggle transformed into clarity and balance.
Together, these wines speak to something larger than winemaking. They reflect the tension and eventual harmony between pressure and preservation, challenge and clarity—what happens when authenticity is not refined away but allowed to remain intact.
