Crawford Homestead

Crawford Homestead Homesteading, our growth towards a healthier lifestyle and self sufficiency! We are a small homestead growing fast! In the coming years we will raise for meat.

We are starting the journey to becoming more self sustaining and adapting to a healthier living style. Since we are starting small rabbits and chickens are a great way to go. The rabbits will be raised for a healthier meat for my self, my husband and our large breed dog. Rabbit is a very healthy, easy, and space saving animal to raise for meat. The chickens are first being raised for breeding and

selling purposes along with egg production. The goat on out homestead is a pasture buddy for the lamb and w**d control. The next couple years we will add a milk goat for soap making purposes. The ram we have will be used for studding out services and his fine wool. Each year he is sheared and his wool will be hand spun for selling. Along with all the animals I will share our large 100 year garden that we will be planting every year starting this year! The excess fruits, veggies, and herbs will be sold off. We plan to can and preserve what we can sharing all the processes along the way. Our home is an old farm house so we will share our old unique finds from different home objects to decade old flowers and trees.

Store poptarts are filled with artificial ingredients, high quantities of sugar, and tons of artificial dyes.

They are super easy to make at home!
Pie crust, fruit compote or jelly/jam, egg wash and some icing!
Being able to control the ingredients is what is so beneficial about making at home.
Layer your fruit compote or jelly/jam between to pie crust, egg wash and crimp the edges, egg was the top and poke some holes, bake at 400 for about 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Cool and top with icing(milk+powdered sugar) add a little fruit compote or jelly/jam for some extra color and flavor. Cut like a pizza and enjoy!

Kids love sharing and eating them like pizza slices and makes for a wonderful treat to bring to a brunch that is easy to share!

We've been getting all the old mushy produce from the farm stand in town for the piggies. We have been enjoying feeding them all the goodies too lol
I really appreciate when a place offers up old produce that is not moldy or rotten!
I have wasted a lot of time where people will offer up stuff but it's too old and gone way too bad. I won't feed that to my pigs, it has to be the perfect in between. Too old for people to eat and enjoy but not so old it's rotten and moldy lol

Eggs are often judged long before the carton even opens.
Clean, neat, unique, memorable cartons perceive quality.
Labels answer questions, fresh, local, free range, and much more.
Cartons also tell a story, of care, investment, and effort!
Colorful and seasonal cartons can make your eggs feel like a special purchase, one that is remembered ❤️

In short, your cartons do the marketing for you!

We are in the middle of a pretty intense heat wave so it's the perfect time to let the piggies into the next pasture!
The goat pasture.

It's very uneven with hard clay, large rocks and lots of stumps. Grows nothing but w**ds, perfect for goats!
It's already uneven and rough so I also let the pigs into the pasture daily to graze and forage.
At one point this pasture was overrun with thistle, the goats like to snack on it but just the tasty tops. Pigs on the other hand prefer the roots, so after a few seasons of pigs they brought the thistle down to a manageable level.
What I didn't expect was how much the soil improved after the piggies broke up some of the big clay chunks! So I also started adding in wood chips, organic matter that will break down and add to soil quality!

Every season I learn more and more just how each animal on a homestead can perform a task that will improve or support another animal on the farm or the land and farm itself! ❤️

Natural dog treats for your farm pup from H&N Homestead
The liver treats, freeze dried quail eggs and Trachea chews are a big hit. We can't wait to try more

Cane Corso are hard chewers and thrive off a reward based training system, but high value treats are a must.
Puppies consume a lot of treats, to me it's important for them to be healthy and high quality! Not to mention I never miss an opportunity to support another homestead!
