White 8524 rebuild is complete and ready for springs planting. Shifted all row units to 20” spacing, added 3 hydraulic drive motors to each wing and center section, new row unit hardware, new hanger bearings, new idler wheels, new chains, new hex shafts, converted planter harness to Precision Planting, new PP Gen 3 monitor, new PP Smart Connector to run hydraulic drive motors, new disk openers, new Yetter Twister closing wheels, and new seed delivery hoses. Advantages to this rebuild are narrower row spacing for soybeans and canopy closure, updated to section control shutoff (3 sections) ability to variable rate seed, and better user experience with updated monitor. Living proof that your next next planter is already on your farm!

As we finish up meter testing, a reminder regarding annual meter maintenance. A fresh coat of graphite sprayed on your seed plates goes a long way to ensure proper singulation and reduced friction.

China weekly chemical tech pricing has continued to rise for the 3rd week in a row as a direct result in geopolitcal risk. Drive up in energy prices, leading to increases in raw materials costs such as methanol that is raw material in glyphosate. Concentrated tech is manufactured in China and imported to the United States to be formulated into totes. This is a concerning trend to monitor for as we go through the growing season and start planning for next year. Products to be watching:
24D: Up 13% on month, up 23% on the year
Glyphosate: Up 15% on month, up 22% on the year
Metolachlor: Up 8% on the month, up 1% on year
Propiconazole: Up 15% on month, up 9% on year

Planter meter testing is finishing up. We test meters with a test stand that allows us to set air pressure and speed. Below is a link that will bring you to a tool I developed that shares test results comparing white OEM meter to Precision Planting vset/vDrive. Results show a .64% advantage to vset/vdrive or a +1.28 bu advantage. I hope to make some improvements to this tool adding in advantages w/ vdrive including turn compensation that wasn’t included in this analysis as well as maintenance costs.
