Let’s talk about pellet smokers for BBQ at home.

Pellet smokers are often refered to as a set it and forget it. Not everyone has the time to dedicate 12+ hours feeding wood into an offset smoker, if you want that authentic wood flavor just hire Matt’s Backyard BBQ and we do the work for you.

Pellet smokers are a great at home option and while they will never get the authentic flavor that meat cooked over a real wood fire gives you, they can still make some great BBQ for your family while being much more of a hands off approach. I wouldn’t call it set it and forget it though.

Meats cooked on a pellet grill still need to be monitored periodically to ensure the best results. Things like spraying the meat to ensure it does not dry out or parts overcook throughout the cook, and using whatever wrapping method you choose to finish the meat, as well as closely monitoring the temp, fat render and tenderness towards the end of the cook to ensure the meat is pulled off the smoker at the right time.

Welcome to Matt’s Backyard BBQ. I have a passion for slow cooking meat using a real fire, and you will taste it with every bite. I am taking reservations for events in 2023 of approximately 50 people.

What makes my BBQ different?

1. All my meats are smoked in an offset smoker using real wood and a real fire. My style of BBQ is central Texas style. I use simple ingredients, no injections or liquid smoke, just authentic smoke flavor only a real fire can provide.

2. The meat for your event will be smoked fresh right before your event and kept hot until time to serve. A restaurant may have their cooked meat shipped in cold, then it is reheated to serving temp, while also holding the meat for long periods of time so they don’t throw any away.

3. I will also serve the meat at your event. Some meats tend to dry out once sliced and exposed to oxygen, so when you get a big pan of pre-sliced meat, so much of the rendered fat and juices that makes BBQ great are gone. Your guests will get freshly sliced/chopped meat, tender and juicy.

Meat prices have gotten expensive these days, but I will be competitive in pricing with your local restaurants while using higher quality, freshly cooked meats and serving at your event personally to ensure each guest has a great meal.
